Reviewed by Chris on 13/12/2008 Ok have had this phone for a couple of days and was concerned about upgrading to it due to the hot and cold reviews of this phone. So far my experience has been great the phone is excellent and all has worked out of the box. Email set up and is working perfectly and the signal and battery seem no worse or better than my previous phone. Can't speak for those that got this phone when it was first released but i reckon its worth hanging in there, get the latest firmware and ignore reviews that seem to have been written by 12 year olds, because its a great piece of kit. Reviewed by Brett on 13/12/2008 There are so many impressive aspects of the storm, ranging from those features you'd expect to be first class from a BlackBerry handset such as the e-mail facility and the organiser and amount of information the address book can hold; but other great features include a decent media player, excellent internet streaming and loads of practical applicatons pre-installed. HOWEVER it is without doubt the poorest mobile phone I have ever owned for maintaining a constant signal. I'm not just talking about a constant 3G signal, I mean just a regular signal so that I can actually make calls or send texts. Fair enough I live in quite a rural area however my previous SE never had any problems with coverage. Due to the lack of coverage (VF - which is generally pretty decent everywhere) the phone is constantly trying to find signal and therefore my battery would run out after about 6 hours. I couldn't keep this phone for this reason - after all no signal equals no phone. Having s aid all of that, if you lived in an area with a really strong signal this would be an astonishing piece of kit. Using the keyboard is a nightmare and the camera isn't great but the phone looks amazing. This phone was released way too soon, I can obviously understand why, but I'm going to wait another year before even thinking about trying a Storm (or it's successor) again. BlackBerry will no doubt sort it, like Apple did with the I-Phone, but until then it's back to trusty SE for me. Rating:
Reviewed by david hoar on 12/12/2008 I have persevered for a week to try and use this amazing looking handset. I am now of the opinion that it is virtualy useless. How do you dial a number that is not in your contact list ? The keyboard is a nightmare for mis keying and every application I have downloaded does not work, I just get a message asking me to download the application again when I go to use Google Maps for example. Also it stopped receiving texts for more than a day and texting back is SLOW and problematic. Vodaphone gave me this handset for free with an 18 month contract. I truely believe I would have flipped by then and be in an institution (in a padded cell with a mains plug to recharge the Storm every 6 hours) If you really are a techie with patience and do not need the functionality for your work then go for it, otherwise DO NOT GET THE STORM. Reviewed by michael b on 12/12/2008 I really wanted to like this phone. I played around with it in several different stores and found that the staff were unhelpful (Vodafone and Phones4u). Most did not know too much about it and deny knowing about any issues. I was not allowed to play with the phone on my own for too long. It does not switch between screen modes quickly enough. The screen is not always responsive and you ahev to press the keys several times. As I say I nearly got on but having paid attention to this site since it came to market it made me think it will not be good until the 2nd edition comes out prob next year. Therefore I have gone for the iphone 3G and I did not want to get this but I am actually quite happy with it. Rating:
