The worst phone I have ever had. It has stressed me out more then not having a phone. I've had the Blackberry 9780 Bold for 1 month on a 24 month contract with Vodafone. After 8 days of having the phone, I set up a screen locking password on the phone which I entered correctly. It then asked me to re-enter the password which I did again correctly. I was then asked to enter the word 'Blackberry' twice which resulted in all my texts, e-mails and contacts being deleted. I thought I would give the phone a second chance only for the same thing to happen again yesterday. I took it back to the shop only to be told they can only send the phone away for repair even though I am paying for insurance as I had not returned it within 7 days. That was because it had not gone wrong within 7 days!. I have been back to the shop 5 times in the space of a month. E-mail filters do not work, internet coverage is awful and have now also been told it is not compatible with Hotmail, as Blackberry does not have the rights. It is possible to receive hotmail messages but it will not sync with hotmail on your computer so you have to delete, open all messages on the phone as well as your computer. Isn't the Blackberry supposed to make your life easier? It has been the most sressful month of my life. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

I'm on my third new bold in two months. I couldn't finish a single conversation particularly on the interstate or traveling in general. I had no such problems with my curve or the storm before that. This last one is definitely better but has had a couple of times dropping a call in a place where my curve didn't. I have had his one for a week. Not real sure I like the new 6.0 software. I see a lot of hesitation here and there. I get a lot of the little time clocks in places my curve didn't hesitate! Wish I had my curve back which had a bad power plug on it & it was out of warranty. I had bought this phone secondhand, couldn't afford it new, but thought I could do with it even if its second hand as long as it works, and in good condition. And its been almost a year I have had not many major problems - it is the best phone I have ever had. There are few problems with this, such as the following: 1) Battery life - considering I use the internet every 5 minutes, on facebook, or different types of apps, like messenger, always emailing, or browsing, the battery has to be charged everyday. Solution:- To charge it while your sleeping, i leave it to charge for about 8-12 hours while I sleep, and it lasts for a whole day without any problems. Have been doing this for about a year encountered no problems, unless it wasnt charged for a day :p 2) Trackball - Sometimes because of dust, or finger bacteria, while touching the trackball it can gather allsorts of dirt, which rolls it inside of the phone and turns slow or the trackball stops working for a bit. At first I thought my life was ruined and I couldn't get it to work until I researched on youtube and google for a solution. Solution 1:- Press hold of the trackball, press it down and move it around for few seconds (make sure to lock the phone before doing this) - it should work. Solution 2:- If not, then there may be more dirt than necessary, so get a cotton ear bud, dip it in alcohol, or oil (any type) slightly, nd dab it on the trackball, then use the same method of pressing it down and moving it about, that way the dirt is moved out the way and works as normal. Keep in mind sometimes it may take awhile to start working again, give it a while and it should work. Solution 3:- If none of the above works, keep trying! If not then if you can take your phone apart, you will find alot of dirt inside near the trackball, clean it! If you can't take the phone apart or are afraid to, then you can always get it done by a professional. 3) Screen - Sometimes the screen can get easily scratched and thats normal for all phones. Solution:- I would recommend screen protectors, bargain can be found on ebay! 4) Freeze - Sometimes due to the overload of data, or flash, the phone needs a break and freezes. Solution:- Leave it for a few minutes to return, if it doesnt, then try putting the phone off, if that doesnt work, take the battery out, let it cool, then put it back in. It may be either the overload of data, or the battery must have died, so put it on charge if you see the battery bars down. --------------------------------------------- Other than that, the phone has been a great benefit to me, i love it so much and have had good experiences with it. When im low on credit, i never worry about not being able to contact anyone, due to the wifi service, i can easily email people, or facebook them, and let them know. I watch youtube videos on it almost everyday, I browse a hell of a lot! And I have many stuff in my phone without a memory card. If you text a lot rather than call, this would be your ideal phone. Highly recommended! :)

The Bold 9000 is the worst phone/smartphone I've ever owned. Sound was gone 3 months after purchase. RIM replaced it with a solemn promise and guarantee that the sound would not fail on the new/used phone. 2 months after receipt, the sound failed. Placing a piece of cardboard inside, between the battery and case brought the sound back, for a while. Then, removing the cardboard and breaking a toothpick off inside, between the gray plastic covering the camera brought the sound back, for a while. Updated phone to 5.0.0.822 caused the sound to disappear again. It turns out, this update released by RIM had a sound bug in it. 3 months later, RIM released a patch to solve the problem, but my carrier doesn't offer it. In the end, those who did install the patch, continued to experience no sound. The phone turns off sporadically and will not turn on unless left without battery and power cord for a minimum of 5 hours. Trackball fails due to use and RIM locked it in the phone so there is no effective way to clean it without voiding the warranty. I am the proud owner of a very nice looking smartphone that doesn't ring, doesn't alert me to scheduled tasks or appointments and a trackball that works when it feels like it. I will never purchase another RIM product and doubt my company will either due to the maintenance nightmare of their products and their solution process which involves repeatedly sending out defective phones until the warranty is up so they can sell you a new, defective phone. RIM is certainly -not- what it once was. Don't be fooled by the Brand. RIM products are rated as the most unreliable phone by the third party company tracking phone performance across the board. Google for it. You'll never buy another Blackberry.

10 years ago, I was expecting phones to allow an uninterrupted call between Paris underground stations...and I had it. My (brand new) Bold 9700 does not allow this any more (I only have "GSM" capability underground instead of the "3G" sync I had before with the BB 8707)...and all my colleagues are experiencing the same kind of unstable behavior. Did BB forgot that a phone has to be able to issue reliable phone calls before offering a GPS or a Camera ?

Living with Blackberry has been a difficult experience for me. The Bold was my second Blackberry and I only got another one because both were supplied for free by my employer. I specifically requested my next replacement to be a phone of another brand. So I suppose that means that I would not opt for Blackberry even if they are come for free. These are the drawbacks I have to report: 1. The battery can last as little as 19 hours; 2. It jams very often making it very frustrating to use; 3. Sometimes it loses its signal making the phone unusable; 4. It is completely dependent on the roller ball in the middle. When it stopped functioning after about 6 months, the phone became unusable; 5. When it was still working, the roller ball was very erratic and moving around the screen was a hit and miss affair; 6. The keys are ridiculously small; 7. There are shortcuts but some of the regular functions appear to have been overlooked. For instance, you can't move to the SMS writing screen at the touch of a single button; 8. Blackberry seem to have focused on some features and not devoted more attention on functions one uses continuously making the phone a fashion accessory rather than a functional item; 9. The key pad does not seem to lock automatically. Mobile phones are, unfortunately, items which one has to live with every hour of every day. It simply does not make sense for one to live with a phone that causes so much frustration.

Have had them all - BB's, iPhone, HTC, etc etc. Want a phone that kicks all of their a$$e$? Get the Nokia N900. A bit bulky but with better battery, full slide out Qwerty kb, and Maemo OS. The N900 is easier to use than all, and oh, I forgot to mention, you get a terminal window that allows you to obtain root access - yes, this phone is written on a linux platform!! Not that this is really important for the non geeks, but to me it is. Has never failed, locked up, or needed reboot during operation. If you can get over the size, you will not be disappointed in the least!

This is the worst phone I've ever used. The sound has failed twice. If you do a google search for blackberry bold 9000 losing sound, you'll see how many unsuspecting consumers have been stuck with this piece of junk and yet, RIM is silent. They acknowledge there is an issue, but will not admit it is a design flaw. I'm back to using my old Curve. Once that breaks, I'm going to Nokia. Do yourself a favor, save your money. Don't buy RIM products, unless you also want to pay them to support it.

I have had the BB Bold 9000 for 1.5 yrs now. The phone has alot of great features. My biggest problem is the phone's durability / stability. It suffers from frequent crashes and just odd random issues. One example is the phone just randomly dies and you can not power it up - regardless of charging, new battery or whatever. But if I leave it sit for 24 hrs with battery out, it somehow comes back to life. can't explain why or what is wrong, but it is a known issue - go ahead and search for it. It is random issues like this that make what could have been a good BB, a mediocre at best BB. So, I give it a not so great score on the design. The email, calendar, and contacts are fine (what you would expect from a BB) and the screen resolution is really great for this phone, but the other features are still awful. Its ability to handle content like music, pictures, etc is better than older generation BB's, but does not come close to comparing with older generation Android and iPhone (perhaps expected of a BB). Same with browsing - it is painfully slow even if in 3g area with 5 bars showing, but that could be a by product of the ATT network as well (let's be fair - ATT has had well known issues with their 3g rollout). Plus, the other apps for the phone just aren't in the same calibre as competitior's smart phones that are in that same generation. I can only hope that BB figures this out, because I have a feeling that Apple and Google (android) will continue to eat their lunch and gain marketshare. this was my 4th BB and I am ready to jump ship. Hope this was helpful and thanks!

Just got this as a free upgrade, due to the problems i am having with 8900 (freezing screen, loss of data, turning itself off etc). This phone is enourmous and in my opinion completely oversized. Try walking around town with it, might as well take the laptop. It is going straight back to O2 after only 24 hrs, already some of teh old problems are happening i.e freezing screen. I have had numerous blackberry over the past 3 years and i would descible myself as a heavy user due to me using it for business. I have had no end of problems with all the models and have gone through at least 3 a year and all because the same problems occur ie. switch themselves off, loss of data, phone freezes.I am constantly having to take out the battery and reboot them. O2 keep replacing them free of charge so this must be a known or common problem. This is the last blackberry i will ever have and its a shame as the email capability cannot be beaten but i cant put up with all the rubbish that goes with owning a blackberry.

After 6 weeks the scrollball will only go sideways and down NOT UP so it has been handed in for repai and they say it will take upto 3weeks to return it. I don't want a phone that is available to me for two thirds of the time!

Quality phone, does everything that it needs to do and is so easy to use. Most def the best phone that I have had. Its also the first BB that I have owned. Down side, the battery doesnt last long & after 6 months my trackball has completely broken. Not good for a phone that I have only had for a while (read that this is a common problem so is likely to happen again)

Buy yourself an Iphone and save yourself a lot of wasted money. I have both and and I wouldn’t recommend the blackberry to a chimp. As with most Apple products the Iphone does what it says on the tin, the Blackberry well as someone working in IT i have to say it is the worst smart phone I have yet come across. People who rate this piece of garbage have not owned other smart phones especially the Iphone.

Don't buy this hunk of junk!!!, I switched from trusty nokia to Blackberry now 4 months later this 'oh so clever!' phone has packed up on me, I sent it back to O2 and they have refused to fix it claiming that condensation caused by going from a hot environment to a cold one has caused the insides to rust!! and therefore its my fault! You try living in the UK without going from a hot to cold environment every time you come in from outside! This phone is so delicate only office bound geeks who live in a dry climate controlled oxygen bubble should consider owning one, Blackberry should be ashamed of themselves! you have been warned!

Had the Bold for almost a year now, previously had a BB 8820 for about 2 years. The Bold 9000 is absolutely outstanding! In response to a few comments about poor 3G performance, dropped calls etc., this is most likely down to the service provider's 3G/Edge/GPRS coverage, not the phone. It gives access to google maps with accurate GPS position, ideal for finding your way in the cities, even shows the Metro stations in Paris or the London tube. There's heaps of free apps for the Blackberry out there as well.

I have owned this phone now for 9 months. The first month or so was okay. Since then its been going down hill. I accept that there are many good features on it, but lets be honest. The Blackberry software is rubbish to say the least. It crashes constantly, drops calls and somehow manages to allow calls to go silent when im trying to talk to someone.... The battery is frankly a joke. If I am on the phone for an hour then im lucky for another hour of normal use. It really is a shocker if you need to have your phone available all the time. The reception is frankly a joke! I have tested 3 phones in the same room and somehow the Bold manages just 1 bar whereas the rest have full reception. How does that happen?! Overall it has been the worst phone I have ever owned. If someone could swap me anything for it I would gladly take it! No questions asked.

I was given the Blackberry by my office, so I got it for free. But not paying a penny for it does not stop me from saying that I value more my Nokia 1200 they had given me before. The Blackberry is not suitable for people who only want to make and receive calls and SMSs. That's all I want from my phone; fulstop. I have a traditional diary for my appointments and never use a camera at all. If I want to hear music I can normally resort to my computer CD, my car CD or my livingroom CD. Sending messages with the Blackberry is a nightmare for people with large fingers. One depression and six buttons go down simultaneously. The battery longevity is perhaps its most ridiculous attribute. You'd be lucky to get 2 days when with a normal phone you can always get a week, even 12 days if you remember to switch off at night. It may be state of the art technology but for some people it is like leasing the space shuttle for an errand down to the corner shop when a little stroll would be enough.

Had this phone for over a year, early impression were pretty good, i understand the gripes about battery life but I simply stick mine on to charge every night and that seems to give me enough juice for a day, must admit I rarely use the media player side of things or indeed the camera. The issue I have is that the phone is unreliable. The software is constantly crashing, the screen often appears as thousands of coloured dots, the trackball has become steadily less responsive. Any consumer device that has to have the battery removed as frequently as this phone should not be released, sometimes this is once or twice a day. Whilst I appreciate that those in love with this phone will overlook these issues I find them detrimental to using it even as a phone. On the plus side I agree that the e-mail functionality is very, very good, but if I have to remove the battery so I can reset the screen so I can read my e-mails that is not good. A poor user experience overall.

As a past owner of the Iphone, I think that the Iphone is way much better in so many ways, for one you don't have to keep connecting to your car via bluetooth everytime you get into the car this is a hastle, On the iphone you only need to connect once and that's it. another major thing that is great about the iphone is that so many different electronic equiptments manufactures are making it so the iphone is compatible ....for example music equipmment and car manufactures making the ipod / iphone stereo system compatible and so on........

The Bold is great device easy to use, has well set out menus, an amazing crisp clear screen and solid build quality. Problem is though given the size of the qwerty keypad I was annoyed at the lack of seperation bewteen the keys. The keys are flush and this makes it hard to type on. The Blackberry 8900 is better as it has subtle key seperation bewteen the keys which makes it easier to feel around the keypad. Overall though its the sheer size both in thickness and width which is the Bolds downfall. The Blackberry 8900 is exactly the same phone minus 3G but its smaller size makes it more ergonomic. Plus the keypad is easier to use on the Blackberry 8900 too. Overall the Bold is a great phone but check out the Blackberry 8900 first before you buy.

By far the WORST phone I have ever had. I am on my 7th bold in less than a year!! The trac ball is ridiculous. After about 3 months it stops going in a downward motion which you need in order to use the phone. It also stops sending emails and connecting to the internet after a while. It constantly freezes. I've never had to take a battery out of a phone as much as I have had to with this phone. Literally about 10-20 times a day....mind you this is my 7th bold and they ALL do this. In America they advertise this phone that you could run your business by using this phone only. Maybe that's the reason so many business' in America are failing; because they have this piece of junk phone. Don't waste your money or time with this phone. Its aggrivating, frustrating and down right maddening using this phone.

When composing a message, it is very quick and easy due to the QWERTY keyboard. I had a few software problems recently but rung up orange immediately and they couriered a replacement to me immediately the next morning. I would thoroughly recommend this phone , it has everything.

I've owned Blackberrys when they had B/W screens and had a scroll wheel on the side! This latest incarnation is by far the best I've ever used and I'm going to go out on a limb here & claim that this is indeed one of the best phones I've ever owned! If you read many emails a day like I do, scan the net quickly for wiki answers & do google searches the 3G speed is blistering and the stereo speakers on this are AWESOME!!! I contemplated the iPhone being an Apple fan, however it just didn't quite win me over. I've got big fingers, so when attempting to use the sms function on the iPhone it was a mess... My Blackberry serves all my needs (Well most of them lol) and I've got up to 5 email accounts connected to it. The camera and batery life could be better but what do you expect, it is a multi-purpose phone with many apps so inevitably will drain. I'm currently torn between upgrading to the Bold 2 (Onyx) or refurb my current Bold... That's how much I LOVE this phone. So don't waste time, trust me... You'll wander why you have not one one before!!! ENJOY....

Vodafone Blackberry Bold- A Nightmare I purchased a Blackberry Bold from Vodafone Store in Kolkata, India on 27th October 2008. Within 6 months the steel frame of the facia started rusting. I took it to the Vodafone store and learnt that facia is not covered under warranty. Soon after, the trackball started to stall. I was advised by helpline to re-boot the instrument to restore trackball movement.. The phone used hang frequently and had to be re-booted. On 20th of October the trackball stopped moving downwards and re-booting did not help. I reported to Vodafone Store in Sarat Bose Rd & Southern Avenue crossing, Kolkata on 22nd October 09 and was told to come next day as concerned technician was on leave. I reported again on 23rd October and the technician demanded purchase & warranty documents. On the 24th October, I took the purchase bills and demanded a new replacement under warranty but was told that Vodafone Store could only register complaints and send instrument to Bangalore for resolving hardware issues which would take 15 days. I am shocked that Blackberry sells phones all over the country but does not offer service support even in Metro cities and instrument problems have to be referred to Bangalore. I demanded a replacement as the instrument was within warranty period, had a history of problems and was defective in many respects, The phone was purchased from a Vodafone Store for Rs 34900, yet Vodafone declined to take responsibility and passed the buck to Blackberry in Bangalore. I handed over the Blackberry Bold to Vodafone with a strong complaint demanding immediate replacement with a new set. I am yet to get a response and under compulsion may have to move the consumer court.
