I've just sold my 9700 and bought a HTC Desire HD. I now partly regret this. Although the Desire HD has a fancy screen and cool android apps, the Bold is just a great messaging phone. This is mainly due to the qwerty keyboard, which is a godsend and I think more phone manufacturers need to go there. Battery life on Blackberries has to be the best of all phones too and that I love.

I have been using BB's since almost the earliest models, and by and large not enjoying the experience. This phone improves on the previous one i used in many small ways, but the overall effect is huge, i would say this is the best smartphone i have used, with one caveat, for internet and apps, it is not as good as Apple or Google, or indeed anywhere close. That Said for what many people, particularly in business, need is messaging voice and plain text, and with the evolution of the interface, the trackpad and Keyboard are brilliant, epic battery performance compared to the iphone, and good performance with modest signal strength. this is an excellent device Much better than my iphone for quickly editing text, voice calling, battery life. being smaller. Not so much, really doesn't do internet, i tried using down loaded apps , but couldn't figure out how it worked. other people seem to have got this working though.

I used to be a devout Nokia user for about 11 years and a few days ago I had the chance to switch over to BlackBerry. The 9700 Bold is definitely a very, very good phone with an outstanding screen resolution and a lot of features that Nokia tries to match. The trackpad is the best pointing device I have seen on a mobile phone and its keyboard, although small, it is noway crowded. The only negative-ish point, in my opinion, is the call log that does not separate calls into "Received", "Dialled" and "Missed", but shows all calls in one single list. Apart from that the 9700 is definitely a top-notch phone primarily for professionals and business people.

I have only had my contract for just over a month and have already had to have the phone replaced once due to it not working properly. The select button worked as and when it felt like it, and the phone doesn't work properly if it's on 3G. I used to hate Blackberries, but every one talked me into liking them, and I must say I am highly disappointed with it. I am now on my second phone and it still doesn't work properly. I plan on selling it and getting a better phone!!

The battery life was stellar at the beginning but now can be really poor and at times does not last the whole day. i am a heavy user so I expect to charge at night but not at 6.30pm from a blackberry? The apps are good but not comparable to either Apple's IOS or Android and if it is gaming yiou want these are the platforms and blackberry interface is very plain but useable. I will be not be renewing with blackberry in the next month but will look at android or the new win mo 7 phones.

I got this phone approximately 5 months ago, and wanted to wait a while before posting a review. This is a truly awesome phone. Easy to navigate around, great apps with the Blackberry World. The QWERTY keyboard makes texting EASY, even for muppets like my other half. Plus the Qwerty keyboard is great for Twitter and Facebook. Downloading apps is easy directly from the phone, and there are many thousands of free apps, including themes and games. It looks good, doesn't look cheap and is easily the best phone I have ever had.

I got this from Virgin to replace my hateful Samsung Tocco Lite. My favourite phone I've owned to date was a Palm Treo and this comes pretty close to it. The battery is very good: lasting around 3-4 days. My only beef is it only talks to my computer when it feels like it. I have considered changing it due to its connectivity issues but haven't found anything I prefer (and I need a tap sensitive touch screen due to fingernails I am not cutting off for a mobile, otherwise I'd probably go for a HTC).

Had this phone a month now, there is no doubt that it is a quality product. However it does take a bit of getting to know how to use. I went for this over a touch screen due to the excellent battery life quoted in the reviews, but you need to be aware that these quotes are with all the 3g, wifi, and blue tooth turned off. When I first got the phone, from phones 4u I was not told this, and as a result my battery was only lasting 2 days at the very most, and I thought I had been sold a dud. As I have got use to the phone, I am now getting v good battery performance. My only reasons for 4 stars, is down to the not so fast connection to the web, but apart from that it is a sound investment.

I have consulted this website a number of times before buying a phone (great website guys!), but this is my first review. Having tired of my touch screen mobile phone (Nokia Express 5800) I decided to go for a blackberry, as a few of my friends have them and recommended them. I looked at the Curve, but after reading the reviews on this site, decided to get the Bold instead (as hopefully it will keep me entertained for my 18 mth contract!). This is my first blackberry, and so far, I'm very impressed. It takes a little getting used to, but in terms of having email and facebook etc synced, it's brilliant. I love the fact that you get notifications for everything all in one place (the homepage and in messages). It is also useful that you can view just the texts in one place on their own if you wish to. Email and facebook was incredibly easy to set up. On the Nokia it was a bit of a task! Even for a hotmail account. Just starting to use tasks and the calendar, and like the fact that you can set reminders just like in outlook on your pc. Very pleased so far!

The good points are the internet and keypad The curve sounds better, this has too many bad features

I checked the battery in my phone and it is a 1500 mAHr lithium polymer which I understand is inferior to the lithium-ion. I'm in the process of contacting the shop where I purchased the phone.

The people that don't know how to use a phone shouldn't be allowed to comment. The 'on/off' button turns it on/off. To copy and paste, press the BB button and choose 'select', highlight the text with the excellent track pad, press the BB button again and use 'copy', decide where you want to place the text, press BB button and go to 'paste' - easy! It may help to engage your brain and look in menu's or instructions (or a good website). I have had this phone for around 8 months now. It's absolutely brilliant. If you're looking for a toy/iPhone, get a toy/iPhone and stop moaning. BlackBerry does what it is supposed to do - with minimal fuss and top rate reliability - social networking, email, IM, BBM, SMS, MMS etc (and even phone calls!) admittedly the web browser could be better, but its perfectly useable, although not lap top standard, but its not a lap top sized device! Battery life is good for such a powerful handset. UMA is a godsend as Orange have a poor signal where I live (thankfully Orange have stopped putting their own poor software on phones now). It comes down to personal choice in terms of Operating Systems (BB, Andriod, iOS) - if you don't like it, don't buy it - but try it for a few days at least before making a decision (I was a Nokia fan before and it took me a couple of days to get used to the BB OS, but now, I love it). The handset itself is the best around if you like the BB way of doing things. The only phone that would beat it is likely to be the 9800. I can't fault this phone at all and I've used a mobile for 15 years now, so I've got a lot of previous experience to compare against, and it is truly excellent! My wife was so impressed, she got one too, and she "didn't want a BlackBerry" :-)

Just got this phone and am really impressed with it. My first Blackberry so takes getting used to going from a Nokia N95 to a Blackberry but now that I've been playing with it for a couple of hours it appears extremely user friendly and definitely manageable for someone like me who has already been afraid of Blackberries for their appearance of being for tech wizards only. One thing I have discovered, by random, is that Blackberry made a change to their operating system which means on some models the "hold the mute button for standby mode" no longer works. What I have done instead is to reallocate one of the convenience keys from voice dialling to password lock so I can secure the device in my bag or a pocket (don't worry for those not technically minded, google has loads of simple explanations of how to). I would defintely recommend this phone for anyone wanting a blackberry and if you put your bargaining hat on with the phone companies during upgrades you can get it for the same deals as the 8520 (which doesnt have a flash with its camera and generally in my opinion doesn't look quite as nice). GET THIS PHONE!

I LOVE my BB 9700. This is my first BB phone. I was actually torn between BB Bold 9700, iPhone 3GS, HTC Desire and HTC HD2. Reason why I didn't choose the other 3 is because they're all touchscreen. I don't like to see all those finger marks on my phone hence I opt for BB Bold 9700 and boy.. what a choice I made. I have NO REGRET getting this BB. I made this choice after reading all the reviews posted here. The BB Bold have MARVELLOUS signal strength, and I simply love the customised sms tone (it helps me identify who is messaging me). Love the functions, love how smooth the operating system is and I absolutely love the sound quality of this phone (I used to think SE P-series has the best sound but BB put that P-series to shame). Overall, this is by far the best phone I have.

Orange have replaced the handests in fairness to them - the last one only lasted 8 days (???) I have lost no end of call which equals business to me so the contact is cancelled and I am going to a phone I can rely on which has no "bells and whistles" - if it was a car I would class it as a 1990 SKODA - before VW got involved and improved things beyond belief ! This was my first AND LAST Blackberry - they are rubbish as far as I am concerned. GOOD RIDDANCE !!!

I got this as an upgrade from the curve 8900 and it's still good but not as good. I need to express my issue: the curve 8900 was a sublime phone for it's time. The keyboard is just so easy to use. That's the whole point in having one of these instead of an iphone. But this new bold, yes the trackpad is better but i had no problem with the curve rollball you just had to keep it clean, yes it is faster, but the keys are just so much harder to press. This is just a very big design flaw. Why would you not make them as easy as possible? crazy. My other issues are that the mute key no longer puts the phone in standby mode (does lock mode save battery? i don't know), and the text interface is just worse than the curve interface. I won't go back to the curve just because i think a newer phone will be more stable and i might need the 3g at some point, but i just wish i could have everything. ie. a 3g curve 8900 with trackpad.

Heavily researched all the top new mobiles before taking the plunge this time - HTC, Iphone, Nokia and Samsungs but none could match the all round functionality of the 9700. Bought on Orange and have had no problems with UMA, connects and stays connected in a low signal area and switches seamlessly without dropping calls back to 3G. Takes a while to get used to the smallish keyboard (first Qwerty) and menu system but once you do, you're flying. Battery life is incredible for a smartphone - we're talking days not hours between charges even with everything turned on and heavy usage. Camera gives surprising good results for only 3.2MP. Screen is clear and very good, trackpad is very easy to use. My first Blackberry and am now a convert. Well done RIM & well done Orange, a superb all round package.
