I have read the reviews on the Iphone 3G and i have to say they are usually extremely pro IPhone or at the other extreme very negative. It seems this phone really is a classic "martmite" product, either you love it or hate it. In my experience it is a very very very good MP3 PLAYER with a kind of phone built in, its hard to explain but to me coming from nokia n72 and then n95 8gb it seems like the phone features have taken a back seat to the multimedia features you get. In some ways i regret moving from t-mobile to o2 and taking the 3G as i use my phone primarily for doing just what a mobile telephone should do IE allow me to make calls and contact my friends and family whilst away from home. I must say the UI is first class, ten times anything ive had in the past, it is extremely intuitive and crisp. Also very easy to use i imagine anyone could pick one up and use it with no significant problems. Media player is industry leading as we already knew although i do think the ability to send and recieve files with any other device via bluetooth is inexscusable and in my opinion a blatant tactic to maximise Apples profit through music downloads from itunes. Within that point i have never liked itunes layout and functions, but i expected this when choosing the phone so i can hardly mark it down on that issue. Another big problem is the battery life, I have had the phone for 3 months now and i am a commuter, i dont know if anyone else here commutes to and from work on public transport every day but it usually involves heavy ipod use to ease the pain. Now in this state the iphone disappoints, At least a full charge every day. This is probably better than my n95 but i am sure that was a dodgey unit as one of my friends had the same model with the same firmware which would only require a charge every 48 with moderate use. Pretty good for a phone with so many features. BIG negative for me personally is the quality of the camera. Coming from an n95 to this really is disappointing. There really is no excuse for the apallingly bad quality of the camer and lack of features to go with it. My old w810i SE had a better camera than the 3g and that phone feels like a relic now. Sorry apple but for the price of this phone the camera should REALLY be at least 5mp, which is the industry standard for TOP OF THE LINE smartphones like this one. I think on balance the iPhone 3g is a great device, i would hesitate to call it a phone considering it lacks features like mms and sms forwarding which i first had on my nokia 3330 about 8 years ago. Having said that i do enjoy using my iPhone, it is without a doubt a quality device which is stylish, lightweight for its size and very durable in my experience. In terms of intution it is miles ahead of the other smartphones out there, the touch screen is a revelation to me and is very quick and effective when composing new texts (dont email :) But the lack of a few basic feature i have come to expect from my mobile lets it down somewhat. The bluetooth issue makes me very angry as i was never told about this at the point of sale but i suppose i just assumed a phone of this price and prestige would have such, lets face it, basic features. The rest i cant fault and without a doubt the 3g is the best at what it does. If you want an extremely easy to use and intuitive phone to browse the web, watch movies, play (fully 3d!) games and of course listen to your mp3 collection and occaisionally call your friends i would say get this phone without a doubt. But if you need a solid, reliable smartphone to send/recieve email, live through those conferences and numerous hours on standby on your desk, forward texts, and video call then i suggest looking elsewhere. To sum up i would say the new iPhone is a great phone which you WILL either love or hate, but if you prefer your phone to make and recieve calls and texts, have full bluetooth functionality and last a few days on standby 1. you shouldnt be shopping for a smartphone and 2. The n95 8gb or even n96 would be a safer bet. I think this phone is designed for the slightly younger person who have a grip on technology, as we all do to be fair :)

this phone is absolutely brilliant to use. it doesn't feel cheap it feels extraordinary in your hand and the touch is superb never seen anything as good as it. obviously i think for the price its a bit much as it doesnt have basic features that you would find it a cheaper phone like camera flash, mms, send files through bluetooth etc but if you have the money and you buy the phone all those draw backs just go away because the phone is amazing to use.

Cracking phone. I have a mac and the two interoperate brilliantly. The only time I find that battery life a bit short is if I have wireless, 3G & bluetooth enabled for extended periods of time. For the majority of my days, I keep it on 2G and enable the bluetooth only when in the car. If I do need wireless or 3G, I turn it on for the duration and then revert back. Easy. Nay dramas. Previous reviews are correct in that you cannot MMS but you can email the pictures to friends. the majority of multi-function phones have an email client so that isn't a problem; your friends can still receive your pics. You can also make your own ringtones so again there's no issues with that. If you are willing to wait for some geek to write an app for the iphone to allow video messaging then that isn't a drama either. Personally I find video messaging a tad naff. I mean what's the point. The best things are the browser, email, contacts and calendar apps that synchronise with my mobileme data. Also pictures I take are synchronised with my mac and are therefore loaded onto my online photo gallery. This is a very cool multi-function phone. I only wish that the camera was a 5mp with a flash but that is only a minor gripe.

I had the choice of 3 phones, Nokia N96, Sony Ericsson X1, and the iPhone 3G. After reading negative after negative review on the N96, it was narrowed down to two. After finding out the X1 has windows mobile, it had to be the iPhone. Now, I have to say that the only thing I was disappointed with, is that Apple did not implant the metal back into the 3G, but apart from that, I think the phone is fantastic. Like 'The Admiral', I with no hesitation sold my iPod touch, as the phone has a full feature iPod. I do not know why people moan about the camera, it is stunning quality, and this review is from somebody who just upgraded from the N95! The internet browser is just the best, the screen rotation is a very clever idea, and multi touch makes it easy to effortlessly scroll around the screen. The built in Wifi just put the icing on the cake. I have the 16GB White model on an o2 pay monthly contract. If you are looking for an easy to use, high quality phone, then I heavil y suggest you go for the iPhone 3G! Thanks

Well I just got this phone and as everyone else, I agree that it looks simply amazing and whoever notices it in my hands instantly tell me that it looks kick ass. but after working with it a few weeks, you will notice very bad and annoying specifications about it. For example, the bluetooth is worthless. It's just there to be used only and ONLY by apple's own bluetooth hands-free headsets. You can't use the phone's blutooth for ANY KIND OF FILE TRANSFER. There are also some bugs which sometimes prevent you from using your service's GPRS connection or even WiFi connections. Also, if you want to put songs, pics and everything else into the device from your computer, you'll need to use iTunes which is downloadable from apple's website. iTunes, in my opinion, is one of the most annoying and frustrating software to work with. Managing music, picture etc. libraries is a hell lot of work and there are so many frustrating elements to it that I'm just not going to dive that deep. The bad thing is, you can't delete or manage files in your iphone using the iphone itself so everytime you don't want a specific picture in your iphone you have to connect it to your computer and thhen delete the file in the library folder of your computer and then Sync your iphone with the updated library to get rid of the picture. It's Ridiculous!! The camera also takes very poor shots while still restricting video recording! you can't even record any voice and there's no FM radio! I just can't see why all this has managed to sneak past the developers the second time around. If apple had just came out of its shell and took a look around to see what other mobile devices are capable of, they would have probably done a better job with the 3G. Too bad Apple has always been a "Holier than thou" company. but once you accept what the iPhone is (and that's pretty much Apple forcing you to do what they want you to do with a multimedia mobile device and nothing more like a big Dictator) I think you'll enjoy it. But now that I'm stuck with the iphone because I paid so much for it (900$ in my country, unlocked) I think I would have been much happier with an HTC touch pro or HTC HD. at least the device looks extremely nice from far.

For people who keep saying its a rubbish phone, you are all telling lies. The iphone is the best phone on the market. It has the best internet, phone and music player all on the one device. By far it is much better than the T-mobile G1. The T-mobile G1 has a rubbish video quality for watching youtube videos, you cant even make out who the people are in the videos, it has a rubbish music player, very big and heavy for a phone and it has a keyboard that all the buttons dont feel like a normal button. The iphone 3g has a far better quality screen which is bigger than any other phone apart from the HD TOUCH HD, the videos are as clear as a tv, thw apps are very good for keeping you entertained, the built in ipod is better than any other ipod you would get and the gps is excellent. The sceen on the iphone moves much more smoother than the T-mobile G1 and its far easier to use. If you gave it to a dog it would probably know how to use it its that easy. Iphone 3G is the number 1 phone on the market by far !!!

Took it to Germany on a business trip, watched a 2 hour movie on it and then used it as a normal phone. It lasted for the whole day no problem. Camera could be better, however I use a camera to take photographs so I'm not bothered. Like all Apple products, it just works so there's no faffing around with firmware upgrades or the likes. Love the apps avaiable for it. Highly recommended phone - for adults.

BUT, the contacts can be a bit annoying....I was setting it up late at night and it kept on trying to call the numbers I was entering - which isn't good. Also, the camera and the resolution is poor. The whole point of the iPhone is it's fabulous ease of use. Its so different from other normal phones that it makes them seem an unpleasant wasted struggle. With an iPhone it's actualy worth having capabilities such as web browsing and e mail because now it's actualy a breeze to use them! A snip to synch for music photos podcasts addressbooks. The GPS is so functional its a laugh. You can improve on the ropey old sound quality of standard Mp3 files. Yes there is no video capture and 2meg camera could be a bit stronger but using it's many free apps and beautiful interface is a revelation. Pinching, swiping or typing on a querty touch screen is fun. Only nerds would pick holes before admitting that its intuitive usability leaves all other phones looking backwards I love it! It's well worth the cash.

I'm Apple through and through and have waited patiently for my old contract to run out (a very crashy N95 on Vodafone) The iPhone is brilliant, the integration with my Mac and contacts/itunes etc is seamless, the interface is beautiful, I don't care if the camera is a bit on the small side, I use a Canon for taking real photos, and cameraphones for the odd snap now and again, The only downside is the battery life, but then if you don't mess about with it for hours each day I'm sure it's more than adequate, plus mine is permanently linked to my Mac during the day anyway. As a business device it's a serious contender, the texting and email facilities on it work pretty much off the back of the first sync, although there is the usual smtp problem (which happens on all mobile devices and is easy to get round), brilliant, highly recommended, get one.

Thid is a truly appalling phone. It's hard to decide what to hate the most about it: as a UK-based user, though, I'd have to say that it was the un-turnoffable spellchecker, which, despite having UK and US English settings, still replaces words like 'recognised' with 'the US equivalent 'rcognized' in UK mode. This quickly gets annoying. The iPhone manual is revealing as to the mindset of the developers of this awful system - to paraphrase from memory: 'if you persistently override a word suggested by the spellchecker, the iPhone will eventually *permit* you to use that word without prompting'. Well, gee whizz, thanks for 'permitting' me to enter what I want like that, Apple. Incidentally, despite as a matter of course now dismissing any suggestions made by this system, it has never yet managed to stop suggesting certain words that I have told it again and again are not my preferred spelling. The default behaviour of the spellchecker is to assume you have made a mist ake, and to show a suggested replacement word in tiny, pale blue text, next to the word you have typed. If you click space, or make a full stop, your word gets replaced instantly. Because the text generally appears at the top of the screen, whilst you are focusing on typing at the bottom, it's very easy to miss when an inappropriate replacement of what you have typed has occurred. Invariably, this leads to you typing your whole e-mail, then reading back to discover it has completely Americanised your English, even after you have turned that dictionary off and overtly chosen the UK English one. This issue gets even worse when you are typing in a different language entirely. Another feature I found annoying was the camera. It's of particularly low quality, even for a 2MP camera. Worse, though, the 'shoot' button is a virtual touch-screen one. This is tricky enough when you are taking a photo of something in front of you. Try taking a photo of yourself, with the screen pointing away from you, though, and it just gets ridiculous - as there's no button to feel, it becomes nearly impossible to control. There is a real physical button on the device, and I feel this would have been a much better control to assign to that particular feature. With regard to the phone itself, several times now I have found myself unable to use to make simple calls in the middle of a busy city centre, with 5 bars showing and 3G internet otherwise working. To me, that's a fundamentally unacceptable shortcoming for any phone: if it cannot reliably perform its most basic function, than it's not much use to me. With regard to build quality, the small silver switch that controls the 'silent/vibrate' mode fell off of mine within 8 weeks of purchase. Upon checking the web, this would seem to be a widespread problem that goes back to the original iPhone and is still present in the 3G model. Apparently, they will fix this persistent fault if asked to (I haven't asked them to fix mine). I'd have preferred it, though, if they'd recognised this was a major issue from the first release, and avoided users having to send their phone away for avoidable repair with the 3G. Finally, the battery life figures I've seem quoted appear to be complete unrealistic. Mine, which I don't use heavily, lasts barely a day without recharge. All-in-all, I'm not taken with it. I find it frustrating to use, unreliable in operation, and of low build quality. I wouldn't purchase one again.

Well i went out and took the plunge on wednesday and got the iphone. I didn't do any research and just went to the shop and told them i wanted an iphone. I haven't regretted it yet, it is fantastic, it does everything i expected it to and a lot more. I am really chuffed with it. There are just a couple of downsides with the phone which i will go through, but I have to say it doesn't stop me loving it!!! 1. The bluetooth does not connect to the laptop for file sharing or using the data connection for internet access. This is a real drawback and it seems the only thing you can use the bluetooth for is connecting to a headset/car kit! 2. No MMS. I miss this one especially because I cannot send picture messages to anyone and no video messages either. This is a basic function and should really be supported. As I said even with the two problems I love the phone and highly recommend it to everyone!!! One reviewer mentioned ringtones, and i know that you can create ringtones from your itunes library with garage band. I have done it my self and its really simple! 4 stars from me!!

There are some lovable things about it, but it really is a pain when you figured how much you have spent and realise you cant do basic things such as picture messaging, its text alerts you dont hear and you miss texts, Not to mention mine was faulty from the start and was dropping all calls within the first 20 seconds! The keypad is awful to use and takes allot of getting used to as your finger miss the desired button and you stand in the street cursing why you ever bought the goddamn thing. My advice, wait for the next generation folks! Im off to buy a Nokia Arte-Carbon on ebay and still have some money over for a seperate I Pod!!

IMO, iPhone has the most intuitive and user-friendly interface of all portable devices currently available. It is its sexy looks and unique design as well as its tremendously inviting ease of use that make up for all the shortcomings of which it is being justly accused. I have used a number of Nokia smartphones, a Nokia fan myself, but iPhone has given me more positive emotions while using it, during just a couple of weeks, than I had got out of all my previous mobiles combined before. You have got to give it a try and pretty soon you see that the way iPhone does things compensates for the things it can not do, yet. It is a whole new kind of experience dealing with this unique device. I love iPhone and would recommend it to those who can enjoy mobile Internet surfing, mobile gaming, and multimedia content.

iPHONE is POOR. This is not a phone, it's an iTouch with some phone functionality. Get a grip fashionistas and get a device that does what you want it to do. BUY A SAMSUNG OMNIA i900. Does it all and more, download apps, MMS, 5mp camera, wifi, 3G, touchscreen, GPS, 8/16GB internal storage with MicroSD slot, bluetooth (all functions), very customisable as Windows Mobile. Fair enough the iPhone might look good, but that's it. It's a phone that can't do the simplist of tasks. Go home please a rediscover yourself.

Love it or hate it, it depends entirely on what you use it for. I've had mine for a week now and it does everything I want, great internet browsing, room enough for all my best songs, as well as Google maps which is surprisingly good and blows the old Maps off my N95 into the water. If you want a phone that has a decent camera, don't buy this. If you want to send MMS (my biggest problem with the phone), don't buy this. If you just want to be able to set an mp3 as a ringtone, don't buy this. But if you want a reliable, fashionable phone with the best internet browsing on the market, look no further than the 3G iPhone.

I am trying to find a way to get out of the contract and get rid of this useless thing. I have copied another review as it is bang on. This is the first and last Apple product I buy. Lifestyle marketing over content and functionality is not for me. Is everyone deluded???? No MMS - No video calling - Missing basic functions like text forwarding - cut/paste - Bluetooth device incompatibility - Can't be used as a modem to connect a PC - Web pages don't work as they require plug-ins - 2mp camera - the standard now is 5mp - No flash - Poor battery - Touch screen is pretty tho - wow!!! Most of the functions above are 'as standard' in most new phones!

im undecided? i would say that the iPhone is the best phone ever ... if it had a longer battery life. thats it, thats the only negative thing about it. Unfortunately battery is effecting all phones these days (n95, n96, etc) so theres not much to do about it.... sure it has a 2mb camera, but it works well and starts up quickly. also, people are forgetting Apps!!! theres so many, you can literally do anything you want on your phone... would only swap if for a phone with longer battery life ... nothing to fault, and LOVE the SMS display :P

I definitley dont miss my N95 not even the camera the iphone is the most amazing piece of gadetry i've had the pleasure to own. My other half has the samsung omnia which she is happy with and is a great phone but still not a patch on apples offering. It makes me laugh to see people write such negative reviews if you dont like it fair enough get another phone. Yeah its missing some key features but its hardly the end of the world, but every thing it does do it does with style and the app store is awesome what other phone offers this kind of service? some of them are free as well, how about 3D games like Super Monkey Ball which is almost as good as the DS version or a free spell check app thats also doubles as a dictionary I could go on but just wanted to put out an honest review as it seems the haters are determined to put people off a phone which I consider to a fantastic piece of kit.

I had it for nearly 2 weeks...and if you can do without the above then it's a brilliant phone...GPS/Google maps is great, wireless browsing superb...although Safari doesn't cater for flashplayer, Itunes/Ipod is good as is the video playback.I also liked the weather update and stock update applications...doesn't work well though if no 3G or wireless signal. Wow, there are some negative nancies on here. Let's get one thing straight, there are Apple haters and Apple lovers and never the twain shall meet. With that understood let's look at things objectively, the iPhone is more of a handheld computer with the ability to make calls than a suped up phone. It can email like your PC, it can view photos seemlessly, you can type very fast using the keyboard, the apps add so much functionality just like a PC does. If you want what almost everything your home computer can do, albeit in a new way, then the iPhone is for you. If you honestly can't live without MMS then maybe not. I used to Mms a few times a month but now I email photos instead, cheaper and easier using the mail app. Bloomberg app is free and great for news and markets, tube apps keep you informed, Around Me app finds bars/restaurants/cinemas/etc near me using gps. These apps and hundreds more free ones take the functionality to another level. I change my phone every year and this is the phone I've been waiting for. I've owned a k850i, N95, n82,k800i, ngage, 6600, etc. The iPhone is faster, more functional and a joy to use. That bundled with an iPod and BBC iplayer functionality it is perfect for me. There are some niggles like with any technology, my tv at home doesn't do everything I want. But as some have said the good points outweigh the bad. By the way, I wrote all this on my iPhone on the train home whilst surfing to my hearts content and no extra cost on my bill. e

I read that it doesn't do video, yet this is the best feature it has. I ripped a few movies into it and they keep me happy on flights and trains. It is a decent phone, (wish it was on Orange, as the signal is better here,) the programme and ipod features make it brilliant too. Extremely happy.

I'm not an Apple fanboy, infact I rather love Vista & XP; but this phone is immense. Although basic things are absent, for me, they aren't missed. I agree that they should be there though [e.g MMS/Bluetooth functionality/5MP Cam]. Best internet I've seen on a phone by far. Youtube app is brilliantly simple. And of course the app store just brings endless expansion. Overall an outstanding phone, but with some basic missing features that some users might miss. I will never turn back.

quality speaks volumes, the iphone 3g is designed and made like all Apple products and far out-classes every other phone out there. To call it a phone is an injustice it is a multimedia machine with real internet browsing which is free on contract with 02, and the best music/video player in it's class with it's fully integrated ipod. The camera may be poor by todays standards but for general day to day snaps it does the job. Applications from itunes are superb, I connect to ebay, check football with live summaries, play quality 3d games and so on with absolute ease and that touch sensitivity makes other touchscreens cumbersome by comparison. I cannot recommend it enough.

I bought the newer 3G iphone model, expecting to be more than pleased by its supposed many features. I bought it home to be more than happy with some of its 'many' features... the ipod music player is the best iv ever seen... very clever and holding many more songs than you probably will ever need... the screen is very large and the phone itself does look a million dollars to use the phrase. However, on closer inspection the iphone has many faults. You cannot send images and songs via bluetooth to the handset, the camera is only 2 megapixels... nothing in today's market... and just try to text on it and you will soon realise how difficult this everyday task is! As for the phone itself well its very large, i suppose it could be pocketsized if you would be prepared to have your trousers down by your ankles caused by the weight of the thing!!! Even more frustrating is the phones simple lack of ability to connect to the internet due to constant low signal. After been given the impression i would be able to connect wherever i was i later found out that this was definately not the case... Infact, i couldnt even connect to the internet in a single place both within my house and the location surrounding it. All this is not to even mention the fact you have to buy the handset ontop of a very poor contract. Overall, the iphone unfortunately seemed to be a complete waste of money, time and to be honest a complete let down to the hype it is currently receieving. Take my advice and save your time and money by investing in a much better phone that can actually do the things it claims to be able to!

3G reception is the worst I have ever seen of any 3G phone I have tried. The iPhone never got past two bars while my work phone (on the same 3G network) always showed maximum signal strength. Frequently the IPhone had not enough signal to receive or place calls (1 bar) while the Nokia worked fine. The fact that bluetooth is severely crippled on the iPhone, only allowing mono headsets and worst of all, no BT data pass through from navigation systems that get traffic info via the phone or the special PDA that I use for work actually would make it necessary for me to carry a second phone. The SMS "Text message" application is very inadequate and limited compared to the capabilities of even low end phones. No templates, no delivery receipts. MMS (Multimedia messaging) is completely absent. Very disappointing. Also missing is voice dialing, voice call accept or reject, which is something I expect in this price range in the 21st century. So the reception issues, bluetooth woes and IMHO severly limited messaging, even dated core functionality make the iPhone 3G a huge disappointment for me, I reset and returned it after trying to use it for 4 hours.

The BATTERY LIFE is the HORRENDOUS even with the different useage habits of my wife. In its present configuration, under "real life" situations, the iPhone drains its battery faster than any phone I have ever seen. Case in point: Start out my day at 7 am. Fully charged iPhone. Check my email. 10 items download. Briefly review all. Total time: 18 min. Make a 45 min call. Make a 20 min call. Drive to work and after arriving, I respond to a text msg back and forth for three text sessions Text time used is approx 5 min. It is now 9:30 AM and I have 20% BATTERY POWER REMAINING! Unacceptable. If, instead of being at my office, I were on the road, at the airport, in the mall, etc., I would soon be out of power and then what??? My wife, on the other hand, uses her phone quite differently. Yes she makes calls, but she utilizes the internet and recreational apps a lot more then I do and she runs into the same problem. We both find ourselves walking around with car charger adapters and wall outlet power charger adapters in our pockets or briefcases. I almost can't believe that my phone has raised my daily stress level!

The battery life is actually MUCH worse than the original - which ABOVE all else despite what its like to use or what it does, makes it impractical for those that want a truely Mobile device like even a half decent modern Mobile Phone is today. Another VERY worrying FAULT is the phones HEAT production - sometimes it becomes so HOT that it is uncomfortable next to the body and when held. :(

Indeed it is, there is no change to the actual phone itself, it just has a faster tinternet, and to be honest, apple did not need to launch a brand new phone for 3G. Which they didnt, they simply reselling the old one, but the 3G, you still cant video call and that fault is still there, bascly, apple are wasting there time, and they should go back to just making laptops, and even they are not much good. It's a poor phone, and very limited!
