Reviewed by robman on 23/07/2008 3G reception is the worst I have ever seen of any 3G phone I have tried. The iPhone never got past two bars while my work phone (on the same 3G network) always showed maximum signal strength. Frequently the IPhone had not enough signal to receive or place calls (1 bar) while the Nokia worked fine. The fact that bluetooth is severely crippled on the iPhone, only allowing mono headsets and worst of all, no BT data pass through from navigation systems that get traffic info via the phone or the special PDA that I use for work actually would make it necessary for me to carry a second phone. The SMS "Text message" application is very inadequate and limited compared to the capabilities of even low end phones. No templates, no delivery receipts. MMS (Multimedia messaging) is completely absent. Very disappointing. Also missing is voice dialing, voice call accept or reject, which is something I expect in this price range in the 21st century. So the reception issues, bluetooth woes and IMHO severly limited messaging, even dated core functionality make the iPhone 3G a huge disappointment for me, I reset and returned it after trying to use it for 4 hours. Reviewed by Rupert on 22/07/2008 The BATTERY LIFE is the HORRENDOUS even with the different useage habits of my wife. In its present configuration, under "real life" situations, the iPhone drains its battery faster than any phone I have ever seen. Case in point: Start out my day at 7 am. Fully charged iPhone. Check my email. 10 items download. Briefly review all. Total time: 18 min. Make a 45 min call. Make a 20 min call. Drive to work and after arriving, I respond to a text msg back and forth for three text sessions Text time used is approx 5 min. It is now 9:30 AM and I have 20% BATTERY POWER REMAINING! Unacceptable. If, instead of being at my office, I were on the road, at the airport, in the mall, etc., I would soon be out of power and then what??? My wife, on the other hand, uses her phone quite differently. Yes she makes calls, but she utilizes the internet and recreational apps a lot more then I do and she runs into the same problem. We both find ourselves walking around with car charger adapters and wall outlet power charger adapters in our pockets or briefcases. I almost can't believe that my phone has raised my daily stress level! Rating:
Reviewed by Toby on 20/07/2008 The battery life is actually MUCH worse than the original - which ABOVE all else despite what its like to use or what it does, makes it impractical for those that want a truely Mobile device like even a half decent modern Mobile Phone is today. Another VERY worrying FAULT is the phones HEAT production - sometimes it becomes so HOT that it is uncomfortable next to the body and when held. :( Rating:
Reviewed by Rob on 09/07/2008 Okay, the new 3G Iphone, this will be realsed on the 11th july and there isnt a big waiting list for it, hmm, maybe because people have actually listened to me for a change, or maybe people know that it's a rip off. Indeed it is, there is no change to the actual phone itself, it just has a faster tinternet, and to be honest, apple did not need to launch a brand new phone for 3G. Which they didnt, they simply reselling the old one, but the 3G, you still cant video call and that fault is still there, bascly, apple are wasting there time, and they should go back to just making laptops, and even they are not much good. It's a poor phone, and very limited! Rating:
