Reviewed by Steve on 16-08-2004 If you are looking for a good digital cordless answerphone that won't break the bank, this is a good choice.
Reception is so much better than an analogue cordless phone. You can use
the phone all around the house and garden without any interference problems.
As with all Philips phones, the keypad is excellent - unlike most of the competitors which all seem to have spongey keys that are hard to press. This keypad is responsive, crisp, and allows you to dial numbers rapidly and accurately. Not rocket science, but an area where so many other cordless phones fail.
The phone comes with lots of useful features, such as handsfree calling,
two phonebooks (friends and family), call log, intercom, call transfer between handsets, paging handsets, choice of ringtones, etc.
However, you have to remember that this is not the top of the range Philips phone, and so there are a few shortcomings. One annoyance is that the power plug cannot be unplugged from the phone. This means that you cannot feed the plug through a small space. Doesn't sound like a big deal,
but it prevented me from locating the phone on the desk I had intended to
put it on.
Another gripe is that you can only record one outgoing message. This means
that if you go away on holiday and record a new message, then you have to
re-record your "standard" message when you get back. Again, not a big issue,
but the more expensive phones do things better. Also I should point out that the phonebooks store a maximum of 20 entries each (40 entries in total).
Overall though, I'm very pleased with this phone, and would recommend it
for home use. I would advise business users to consider one of the more advanced Philips phones, such as the superb Zenia 200, which I also have. Rating:
