broke down after 18 months

I previously owned a cheap washing machine that lasted 7 years without fault. The Hotpoint has lasted 14 months and has broken down. Although the 5 year warranty covers the parts, the labour fee to use the warreaty is £89.00. So after 14 months I have to pay a third of the cost of the machine to have a repair carried out. I was offered an extended warrenty for parts and labour but that would cost £149 for a year. A machine of such renown make I expect to be of durable quality to last more than this period without fault. I will be taking this further with Hotpoint and the Trading standards.
