We have owned one of these for five years, for a family of just 2, so very lightly used... Engineer called out within the first year, and frequently since. Parts needed, and the heat sensor keeps tripping (get the engineer to show you how to do it - it saves £90 a time, which quickly adds up to a new machine!). Now electrical spade terminals to the top heating element have sheared through constant vibration (2 (out of 4) went at once, and a third came away when touched). Claims of 20 year life? Anything can last for 20 years, depending on how much you are prepared to pay. We are fed up and binning this one - off to buy a cheapie with long warranty, and be prepared to throw it away more often.

I have found using this machine that it is a bit quirky but I do like many of the features. The door fully opens and for my utility room opens the right way. However, I have had it for less than 3 months and have had to call out the engineer. He was supposed to come yesterday, a Friday, but we had a late phone call to say he could not make it until Tuesday. My husband was so annoyeed with them we now only have to wait until Monday! We bou=ght this thinking it would last and last. Well we may be wrong. For this price we could have got at least two of many of the other makes.

Dear Elizabeth, the Miele engineer who came to mend the washing machine stated that when using the washer drier facility in the same cycle I should only load half the machine, which equates to about 3/4 shirts. Frankly I do not feel this is made clear in the details when buying the machine. In fact the Miele engineer himself said "You would be better off buying a seperate washer drier." Enough said. [Editor's comment: enough said, indeed! Thank you for your reviews, but please let's stick to the machine, and not get personal.]

" Yes, but then this machine has a handy load sensor which calculates automatically. Oh, and 2.5kg is the dry weight maximum which doesn't seem unreasonable to me. Who would want to overload their machine if they can avoid it anyway? Have you actually used these features in real life Janice? I feel your views would be rather more constructive if you actually reviewed these features in use.

What a fantastic machine! Very versatile so that you get exactly the wash you want. It even tells you how much powder you need! And quiet.. you don't even know it's running!

For a £1,000 this machine is a joke. When you read the small print it reveals that you can only do 2.5kg of washing if you want to use the washer drier facility. Whats the point of that ? Miele charge you to repair (even within gaurentee) if you trip the heat system by overloading. £100 a call out. Not worth the money or the effort.
