Reviewed by Peter and Caroline on 12/12/2010 Ironically, I am here because I was 'Googling' this machine to find out about the door lock. We have had this model for five years now and would have to say that, from a wash perspective, it is a good machine. However, reading some of the comments brought a wry smile to my face. We had a rattle, on spin, soon after we bought it. The first engineer said it was a 10p piece he found in the drum (and really he should charge for the call out) and that we should be more careful - I thanked him for not charging. I quietly disagreed with him about the cause of the rattle, and lo and behold, the next day it rattled again. Second engineer arrived and agreed with me that the noise was coming from the dryer heater chamber, but that he didn't have a spare. I said, 'spare, why do we need a spare, let's take it apart and have a look inside'. We did, it was a loose support on the element and we fixed it (note 'we' not 'he'!). It has never rattled since. I note from others the flickering display. we have had a flickering display for at least 3 years now; perhaps I should anticipate a failure soon. Finally, the temperamental door lock seems to have decided not to lock again, hence my googling. Now you might think I am going to be unhappy with this machine. Wrong: I do not expect a machine of this price to be a BMW; more like a Ford Escort. So, in conclusion, I think 5 years of good washing is not bad. Yes, there have been a few niggles and I am, perhaps, a little disappointed, but on the whole happy. Rating:
Reviewed by Kenneth Newcombe on 03/11/2010 Hotpoint WD860 WASHER/DRYER The worst peice of equipment, not just appliance, I have ever bought. It is now where it belongs, ON THE TIP at Stockton Heath Warrington. There must be an inherent design fault with this machine. I have had 3 machines, 12 Engineer Visits, 4 main control boards, 2 Display Boards, 1 Motor and I can't remember how many thermal cut-outs. This machine has nearly caught fire, apart from the dog barking in the night and me shutting the machine off, I do not know what may have happened, oh and the same machine flooded my ground floor twice, the three machines were all in the first 3 months, after that, the company would only discuss an exchange if the Engineer recommended an exchange, you then ask the Engineer his opinion, "I'm only here to fix it mate", Phone the company back "Is it fixed now?" they ask, "yes" - "well we cannot discuss a replacement". The same story each time until the warranty runs out, "Ah yes we can send and engineer for £159 extended Insurance", "No thanks, I thought I had bought the washer/dryer, not rented it". The customer service is rubbish and follows the pattern. I happen to have seen one the Engineers on the golf course (He, it transpires, is a member of the same club as me) I asked him "What is the ongoing issue with this washer/dryer", "bad design, and continual requirement for updated software" was his reply, " I dont work for them anymore". Do yourselves a favour steer clear of Indesit/Hotpoint they have no credibility in my eyes. Rating:
Reviewed by a mcleod on 02/11/2010 This machine is shocking. I have had it for 3.5 years now. I have had so many problems with it, it would make me think twice about buying hotpoint again! Wire frayed inside that caused a breakdown. Had various error messages. It is still having problems even though someone has been out to fix it. It currently won't rinse or spin unless you select them manually. Don't buy this machine, you will regret it. Rating:

Reviewed by dchurchill on 09/08/2010 where do i start about this machine, ive had service engineer out for the 15th time today in 4 years, he went away after fixing one problem now it wont spin. luckily i get the extra cover every year but if i didnt i wud have got rid after the first year warranty ran out. would not advise anybody to buy this machine or anything similar with lcd panel which flickers then goes completely! complete and utter waste of money this machine is! like other people i could write an essay on the problems with it but i havent got the time or energy!! Reviewed by F Ryan on 24/07/2010 We bought one a few years ago = with in the 1st week the thing overheated & packed up due to a missing seal - engineer came week later (knowing full well what the problem was) but didn't have the spare parts! So another week later they came & fixed it. To be honest not had any problems with it since apart from the LCD display being on the way out - hate to think how much that will cost to fix & its getting a bit noisy on spin now. Most annoying feature is the time it takes after the end beep to open the door - why not make it beep when the door is ready! Have other matching Hotpoint appliances in my kitchen - fingers crossed all working fine! Rating:

Reviewed by Gaye on 18/07/2008 I hate this machine. It is quiet which is great in a flat but the child lock takes too long to release and the 'tumbled' clothes are always creased even when using the shortest drying time. I never use the sensor drying; even the 'iron dry' setting is way too dry. Nobody seem capable of repairing the electronics. My machine is 18 months old and I have just had my 7th visit from Comet engineers who are unable to repair a fault without creating another - mine has now been out of action for 8 weeks. DON'T BUY A HOTPOINT! Rating:
Reviewed by dan on 29/03/2008 i bought this washer dryer about a year and a half ago. I was pleased with it initially but it never seemed to be able to dry properly. Now it is very noisy when spinning and has started announcing the error message f - 13. no mention of what this means in the manual. When it occurs you have to cut the power to it as the on/off button and cancel button fails also. Upon powering up again it's as if nothing happened. In case this hasn't put you of already then i'll spell it out - DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE FAULTY MACHINES! Even tho it does look nice... Rating:
Reviewed by Julie on 03/03/2008 On 31st December 2007 we had Hotpoint WD860G Ultima #1 delivered, on connecting it up and setting it to a full wash as per the manual directions a curious flashing F-10 error code appeared on the LCD screen. 15 minutes getting through to Hotpoint revealed that this was a manufacturing error, and that we would be totally unable to use the machine. 10 days later on 10th January machine #2 was delivered, this time it seemed to work ok but the door sensor to activate the lock was extremely temperamental. By "temperamental" read: had to be slammed multiple times to lock at all, even if it had "clicked" shut, would not lock at all if set to a time delayed start, would often relock after unlocking at the end of a cycle. After 3 weeks of battling with the door lock I called in an engineer - a Hotpoint engineer. He spent well over an hour faffing about with the door, took it totally to bits, made disconcerting comments about how the catch didn't fit into the slot it was supposed to, and actually whittled it down to try to make it fit better! He left me with a warning that the door seal might not actually be water tight anymore and said he'd come back the following week with spare parts. Needless to say more calls were made to Hotpoint, and machine #3 was delivered 5 days later on 13th February 2008. To be fair the delivery man from Hotpoint was very nice, but they had sent me the wrong model - one from quite a way down the range that lacked several features I needed. More calls to Hotpoint and 9 days later on 22nd February 2008 machine #4 was delivered and connected by Hotpoint. Part way through the first cycle a bright flashing F-18 error code came up. The machine sat half full of water with the drum steadfastly refusing to turn in my kitchen. More calls to Hotpoint and exasperated points made that I WOULD NOT be left without a working machine again, and a Senior Hotpoint engineer was looking at it some 20 minutes later. The F-18 fault was a communication error between the electrical board and the motor - again presumably a manufacturing error. The engineer got it working, but on calling Hotpoint again to further discuss the stream of problems and to have a new non faulty machine ordered I was informed that having had an engineer "fix" it that we were not allowed a replacement machine regardless of it being brand new. We were refused access to discuss our complaint with a supervisor or manager, and customer services were unreasonable, unfair, and by the end of the call extremely rude. I went back to Appliance Deals, where we had purchased the machine from, and they took the issues back to Hotpoint on our behalf. Apparently Hotpoint were equally unreasonable with them resulting in them having to seek advice from Consumer Direct. We have been advised to take an exchange for a washer dryer from a different manufacturer. If I could I would actually rate this machine and Hotpoint in general at about -5! Even one of their delivery drivers admitted that the machines are not a patch on what they used to be since Indesit bought out the company. We are now looking into getting a Zanussi, I will NEVER buy from Hotpoint again. Rating:
Reviewed by Adelina Chalmers on 04/12/2007 We bought on 10th October 2007 the HOTPOINT WD860G ULTIMA 1600 washer drier from ASDA Electricals. Which was delivered on the 17th October. We requested an engineer from HOTPOINT (as on the appliance it said to call this number in case things go wrong with it) as it had a horrible banging noise when it was spining at 1600 rpm and he came on the 23rd October. He ordered a new one in - as he said he could not repair it. The 2nd washer drier came on the 31st October. This one had exactly the same problem as the 1st one! We called an engineer again - he did not look at it properly, so he said it was nothing wrong with it. I had to argue with a HOTPOINT Customer Service representant over the phone to send a different engineer out. The second engineer came and after careful examination requested himself from HOTPOINT a new washer-drier. The 3rd one was meant to be delivered on 28th November, they called earlier that morning to say the delivery was not going to go through as they ha d some problems, but they would call to re-arrange. They re-arranged it for today - 4th December. This morning the delivery came and... brought a physically broken washer-drier! I did not sign for any delivery paperwork, as they re-installed my previous washer drier and now I am awaiting for a 4TH washer drier to be delivered, I have now (as I am writing) been waiting for 10 minutes on the phone to get through and to be told that the number for replacing the washer drier the delivery man gave me IS WRONG and had to call another one! I have just been answered the phone, they said they can not deliver another washer drier today as promised and they won't let me speak to the Manager either! Thank you Rating:
