Reviewed by Miss D on 11/05/2009 I have had my Hoover HNWL7166 washer dryer since Oct 2008 which was a replacement for a previous one that I had that kept breaking down and flooding the kitchen (After complaint after complaint and countless engineer visits and parts being replaced Hoover eventually paid out towards me having the vinyl that was ruined by the constant flooding replaced... even though they made it clear that they wasn't admitting liability and it was as a 'goodwill' gesture). Anyway the other day I had put a duvet cover and two pillow cases in to dry so it was only a small load on low heat. It was on for literally 10 minutes and I was in the kitchen and smelt burning, I found it to be the washer dryer. I turned it off at the mains and when I could eventually open the door thick black smoke come pouring out. I rung 999 and explained and was told to leave the house until the fire brigade showed (who sent out 3 appliances lol). Luckily it didnt catch hold and I had caught it in time. The machine was removed from the property by them, red hot at the top of it and they made sure that it wasn't alight anymore. I was told I was lucky to catch it when I did as I could of lost my home (and quite possibly my life) and also it did not trip out... which I thought they was supposed to have a safety feature that stops the machine if it gets too hot. My housing association sent an electrician the following day also who tested the electrics in the house and informed me that there was no problems with the electrics in the house. Hoover seem as if they are going to drag their heels again and feed me crap to cover up, an engineer came out the next day and said that there was no evidence of fire -even though there is black smoke marks on the rubber door seal and the fire brigade removed it- and that it needs to be taken away for further inspection as all that he can see is that the fan had ceased up!!! Well that in itself is not good enough as I have only had the heap of s**t for 7 months. I have been offered a replacement but I have said that I will not have another Hoover product in my property. Trading standards are coming out tomorrow and going to follow this up for me because I am not happy at all given the history with them. I dread to think what could of happened if I did not catch it that quick.... I may of not been writing this review today. I must also add that when the machine was working it took an age to dry clothes and they use to come out unbelieveably creased. My advice is DO NOT EVER BUY A HOOVER PRODUCT!!! UNLESS YOU WANT CONSTANT STRESS, FLOODS, BREAKDOWNS AND YOU DONT VALUE YOURS AND YOUR FAMILIES LIVES. Since this has happened I have searched 'Hoover washer dryer fires' on google and have read some horror stories which I whole heartidly believe given the nightmare that I have experienced with them.
