I haven't bought one (thank goodness!), it was an unblemished, new-looking model in a holiday cottage that we stayed in. At a distance, the Astata appears visually very attractive (catalogue appeal?), but on closer inspection, it all seems to be made from cheap & nasty brittle plastic from melted down cassette boxes. Suction is completely inadequate despite the motor's hefty 1.8kW and the ear-splitting racket. Emptying and cleaning the filter made no detectable improvement but produced vast clouds of dust and filth. I cannot imagine how Vax had the cheek to market this as a cleaner, it does a far better job of the very opposite. We have two Numatic Henrys at home. These are a few quid dearer but a zillion times better. Please don't waste your money on this terrible product, you'll only encourage Vax to make more useless models like it.

Only bought it as it was cheap. 2 main problems, the hose is very soft so breaks. Replacement is �40. Only available from online retailers. Especially when the product from Argos was only �50 to buy. Rip off!! the telescopic tube lock has gone, so having to use Duck Tape to keep the tubes together. Does anyone have one of the machines they would like to donate any of the parts that we are experiencing problems. even complete machine with bits. We are a charity and do not have much cash surplus. I am sure I can from my own pocket give someone bottles of wine or something similar. email me. thanks

do not buy this machine! it is the worst machine i have ever purchased. it is made out of cheap plastic an dhas just fallen to pieces.

This hoover is a complete pain in the backside! I get covered in dust everytime I clean the cylinder which is near enough everyday. The first time I used it I thought it was ace, how wrong was I? Do not buy this hoover no matter how cheap it is, I thought I was getting a real bargain when all I got a useless lump of plastic.

The worst product ever!! I brought this machine from argos and each time i used it I had to empty the cylinder. It has no suction power after at all and does not pick up. I ended up using a dustpan and brush around the house. My husband is taking it to the rubbish tip its 2 months old. Oh and forget to mention it has a lovely high pitched whistle noise when on and stinks. NEVER BUY!!

Terrible product, tube constantly bending at base,very heavy and does not turn easily so its difficult to get around. Bagless cylinder is ment to open and empty wit one click of a button, it opens ok but dirt gets caught under a plastic section so you have to use you hand to pull it all out. I cannot think of one good think to say about this machine. AVOID

Recommend the cleaning capability, handling and the easy-to-empty container. Very solid cleaner but would be a bit heavy for some. Have removed the on-board tool caddy as it gets in the way during use of hose. The multifunction tool was difficult to use on even the lowest suction power setting as it rotated during use. That apart I would still highly recommend this cleaner.
