Reviewed by Andrew Velvin on 06/07/2011 We bought the double oven during late 2006 which is now only 5 years old: Type: FCSM9 Model: AKZ161/03/IX Serial: 858516115122 140605001705 During our 5 year ownership we have had numerous failures: • Upper oven fan failure • Display failure • Options button under display melted beyond use • Upper oven light failure • Lower oven light failure • Lower oven heating element failure • Defective lower oven door hinge • Badly aligned upper oven door (from new and could not be corrected under warranty by whirlpool service engineer who came to resolve) • Main control / power unit • Current unidentified failure As you can see an extensive list of problems and failures which I cannot believe anyone should have to put up with. We have spent around £500 buying it in 2006 and around £400 in parts alone repairing it over the 5 years. This would have been so much more if it were not for the fact I could competently fit the parts myself otherwise with labour you could double this figure !! Sent emails to Whirlpool UK and USA and never even got a single reply. Be wary.... be very wary of buying this brand and model. We will never buy Whirlpool again nor recommend them !! Rating:
Reviewed by Catherine on 07/05/2011 My oven was already installed when I bought my house. It is less than 3 years old and this is the second time it has had a fault code displayed, which has left me without the use of my oven. Last time this happened I had to wait a week before whirlpool could send an engineer to fix it. Now it seems it could need either a new temperature sensor or a control board, depending on the fault. I believe I would be better off with a new oven, needless to say will not be a whirlpool! Rating:
Reviewed by Monika on 04/04/2011 Only 3 years old and and now needs a new temperature sensor. Whirlpool - NEVER AGAIN. Rating:
Reviewed by robin gordon on 01/03/2009 Not long after moving in the grill stopped working and we had to buy a toaster then it all of a sudden started working again but its never been used for toasting again. Once a week or less we would use the oven and about a month ago I decided to leave the oven on standby but with the clock set and then when wifey came home she asked me how I got the Oven to display that display but it was F03. The mounting bracket was seized in on one side and as I had the spare I progressed only to find the cabling in accessible. You spend a shedload on whirlpool only to get dumped on. Rating:
Reviewed by Richard on 05/01/2009 Just over two and a half years old and we have a F 03 code as well for the main oven. We use the top oven/grill virtually all the time and have probably used the main lower one a handful of times so it is pretty poor it requires a replacement part. There are only 2 of us so it's no as if it is in use constantly. P.S the whirlpool cooker hood stopped working and looks like it needs a switch for the fan Rating:
Reviewed by Kev on 01/11/2008 Less than 2 years old and fault code F 03 appears. It seems the 'Oven Sensor' has packed up which costs nearly £50 plus fitting if you don't DIY. Otherwise good oven. Why is it that so many newish appliances don't seem to last more than 2 years before an electrical part malfunctions and then is over priced to replace. The sensor is a tiny part which looks like should not cost more than about £2.50. Oh well thats Whirlpool's reputation out of the window if anyone asks me. Rating:
