Reviewed by Agree with Mark Whiteley's Review on 10/12/2010 I agree with this reviewer that the applicance is total rubbish. I was suprised to find that the Tefal name on the exterior of the kettle disappearing gradually as I have wiped it clean with only a damp cloth, then about 6 months into owning it, it was gone completely. I have had this kettle for 26 months (going in the bin today) and the filter mesh has disintegrated and on closer examination it was only glued into the space not fully sealed in as for months I have noticed it was coming away at the edges. Also in the last few weeks it has been making a loud cracking sound as the kettle begins heating up, then it settles and continues to boil, a bit disconcerting as was not sure if this was an indication it might be about to short out. Also the lid of the kettle no longer stays open and falls forward, so awkward in use. I am a careful owner of my appliances so this has been looked after. Quite simply I am appalled that an expensive appliance would have so many faults and problems in a short time, would definately not buy Tefal again, and haven't bothered to contact Customer Services going by the response received from Mark Whiteley after such a serious experience involving scalding a small child due to poor material. I think this company is compromising the quality of its raw materials. Rating:
Reviewed by Mark Whiteley on 28/02/2010 Total Rubbish with a serious design flaw. Such a shame for an expensive and attractive kettle to be afflicted by a serious design flaw. After only 2 years of use the plastic viewing windows of this kettle developed a crazy paving type array of tiny cracks which eventually split and allowed boiling water to flood the work surface scalding a small child in the process. What is amazing about this is that plastics have been used in kettles for years without degrading like this, so why Tefal should choose such a poor material is beyond sense. A 2 year lifespan is simply unacceptable for such an expensive kettle. Tefal are completely uninterested, saying that the kettle is outside its 1 year guarantee. Don't buy! If you see cracks developing in the level viewing window within your 1 year guarantee period then get on to Tefal "Thank you for your recent email regarding the above appliance. We are concerned to hear of the problem that you have experienced, but have to advise that this appliance is now outside of the 12 month manufacturer's guarantee period we would offer. Reviewed by Mrs Stewart on 02/07/2009 This is by far the best kettle I have ever bought. Boils very quickly, has stayed white over the years unlike other white kettles which have gone yellow. A very easy ergonomic design handle for lifting and poring. Can easily be filled down the spout - just delighted and we have had it for several years now. Ours is now so old this one did not even have the filter and it is still going strong. Rating:
Reviewed by hazel on 28-01-2005 Love this kettle. Have owned it for quite some time and it as wore very well. Highly recommend it, and it's alot cheaper now than when I first purchased it so even better value. Rating:

Reviewed by Mike on 01-08-2004 A beautifully designed kettle. It's tough, and quite heavy when compared to cheaper models. The filter slots in and out in a second or so, not like some, where you just cannot figure out which way round it goes. It's extremely powerful, nearly 3Kw, and the element is not like the usual type; it fires up immediately, unlike the traditional element that can take up to 10 seconds before you hear any sound. When it boils, it shuts off just as fast and goes completely silent - the element doesn't take any time in 'cooling down'. The one thing you must never do is rub the element (at the base of the kettle) with anything rough. My missus tried it, with the result that the kettle subsequently took longer to boil.
But there's a downside! After 3 years the switch on our one started to play up; you could press it down 6 times in a row and it would stay down - on the 7th it wouldn't. Giving it a soft 'thump' would deal with it, but not exactly good practice.
So I decided to have the switch attended to and replace the element at the same time. It can't be done however!
I was told by their service depot in Liverpool that the element cannot be removed / replaced without physically destroying the appliance. As there is a B#10 inspection charge, plus the user's postage, even if it could be done it wouldn't be worth it. A great pity I thought. It if were not for the
repairs problem I would have given the product a 'outstanding' rating. I don't know how long Kettles are designed to last these days, but it's still a jolly good model. Rating:
