Reviewed by henry balfour on 12/11/2011Very sound design, and once I stripped it to look for the source of the slow leak I found the manufacturing quality was excellent. This is a top line product, priced accordingly. The kettle functions very well, and has fast boil times with a larger than 'usual' capacity. The element is completely isolated from the water, giving a very clean internal space that will not scale as badly as an exposed element will. The functions, such as damping on the lid opening spring and the fine filter on the pouring spout show that this was a concerted design effort, and I really appreciate that. I have three of these Ikon kettles in the block of apartments we run - they have been trouble free up to date, except for the slow leak on one - thus the reason I stripped the kettle down. Good quality, excellent design and highly functional. Despite the list of customers on this website with leaks and so on (a regrettable side effect of any mass-production appliance) this is an outstanding kettle in general terms. Breville have always backed my products up through their supplier chain (Briscoes, here in NZ) and I am very satisfied. Rating:  Reviewed by janice on 09/12/2010 DONT BUY THIS KETTLE I'M ON MY SECOND ONE IN 1 YEAR THE FIRST ONE I BOUGHT THE LIGHT DIDNT WORK AFTER A COUPLE OF MONTHS, I RETURNED IT AND GOT ANOTHER THEN AFTER A COUPLE OF MONTHS IT STARTED LEAKING FROM THE BOTTOM I HAVE READ A LOT OF REVIEWS ON THIS PRODUCT AND IT SEEMS TO ME THIS IS A MAJOR CONCERN YET THERE STILL SELLING THIS DANGEROUS PRODUCT, I'M GOING TO PHONE THEM UP TO SEE IF THEY CAN REPLACE THIS FOR I DONT HAVE MY RECEIPT IF THEY DONT DO ANYTHING I WILL GET IN TOUCH WITH WATCHDOG FOR WATER AND ELECTRICS DONT MIX Rating:  Reviewed by mr j adams on 11/11/2010 pretty looking kettle but steer clear of this one. mine im told by breville is just over a year old. It leaks like a watering can, all the polycarbonate is crazed & floods its base, it has become dangerous to use now. I have owned it from new & less than a year. The replacement lasted longer - 11 months - and had to take that back too. I would not buy another. Rating: Reviewed by Pascal on 10/06/2010 Like everyone, we bought this kettle because it looked great. We've had other Breville products we liked so we went for it. After 1 month there was limescale around the 'chrome' at the base, making it unattractive. After 3 months it started leaking at the base where the electrics are, and sometimes it does not turn itself off. Great! :-( This kettle is dangerous and should be taken off the market. Presumably Breville are waiting for a child to get scorched with the leaking water or someone to electrocute themselves with the thing. It is scandalous that they do nothing about it. We are under warranty, fortunately, and are taking it back today. Our last kettle was a Russell & Hobbs and it lasted for longer than 10 years and was also very attractive and easy to clean and descale, unlike this pile of rubbish. It stopped turning itself off after about 1 month and after only 3 months water pours out of the seal at the kettle base. Like others it's also got cracks. Don't be taken in by it's good looks this kettle is a hazzard. Rating: Reviewed by LESLEY MUGGERIDGE on 30/03/2010 This is our second kettle the first the plastic inside snapped and the second has started leaking from the bottom between the base and the balck bottom bit all over the power unit so could have been very dangerous. It is a great kettle but bad quality will not be buying another one. Rating: Reviewed by Ray on 12/02/2010 Lkes so many others, I bought this kettle because I liked the look and felt that at £40 it would be of reasonable quality. It didn't leak but the contacts in the base failed and burnt the wires making the kettle unusable after just 1 year..days after warranty finished. My replacement kettle was not a Breville. Rating: Reviewed by Ann on 11/11/2009 I have the same experience as the other unhappy Breville owners. I stupidly fell in love with the beautiful look but in less than a year, the kettle leaked dramatically - I think the water is pooring from between the metal at the base and the plastic. I emailed Breville and the asked me to return the product for 'exploratory' reasons and would not give me a refund or a replacement product - despite what I can see is a bad design fault. I'm out of warrantee by a month. I also had a problem with their matching toaster - with the lights starting to malfunction within a few months of purchase. The moral of the story is choose a kettle for functionality and not for style! Rating: Reviewed by A. Wright on 10/10/2009 I haven't given this a 5 rating as this is the 3rd kattle of this make and model in less than a year. All of them have developed the same type of fault on the polycarbonate body, which is cracks appear horizontally from near to the bottom on the first one to above the max water level on the second and just about in the middle on the third. Which is a real shame as this kettle is the most pleasing model of this capacity and speed of boil on the market in my view. I don't think I shall get another - I would not trust it. So I guess I'll have to begin my search all over again. All three were purchased from Johm Lewis. Rating: Reviewed by Lesley on 07/10/2009 Do not buy this kettle, stupid as i was i bought 3, the first one the light did not work after a week, and started to leek, i than purchased a second one and the same deterioration occurred. the plastic starts to crack and leaks water from around the base. It has performed excellently till this morning. The blue light comes on but no boil! £40 wasted. Be warned! Rating: Reviewed by David Waters on 07/07/2009 Loverly kettle to look at, performs quick for the first six months, then leaks, I have bought two of these, I thought I was unlucky as the first only lasted sis months, so I replaced it, the second one started leaking again after six months, the both leaked in the same place, just above the Breville badge on base. very disaponted. Rating: Reviewed by Malvern on 22/03/2008 I bought this due to the best buy guide from which.co.uk, it looked well engineered, however after 3 months of normal use the switch started to fail. Needed to toggle 4/5 times to get it to start. This was then followed by a burning plastic smell that appeared to contaminate the water. Amazingly I was at the returns desk at Argos and the person next to me were returning the same kettle for the last time, having changed once before!!. I expected better for £40.
