With very careful use, door handle broke within one month and replacements just have not worked as they should. Salad drawer cracked within 6 months - drawer size is too large for the thin plastic so when filled even only half full there is too much weight for it to bear. The plastic brackets on the glass shelves are substandard - we now only have 3 working shelves and it is impossible to buy replacements. We are constantly having to mop water from the floor of the fridge. As the fridge is only 18 months old this is simply not acceptable. Neither the retailer or Hotpoint have been of any help. Rating: ![]() Reviewed by Sam on 21/09/2011 This has got to be the worst appliance I have ever bought.. Luckily I took out the extra insurance, but even that is not going smoothly.. I am on my 3rd or 4th door handle, 1 new replacement door. 2 new door seals and 2 or 3 thermostat replacements.I still have lots of water leaking from the bottom of the fridge. Both from the rear external drip tray, and through the door.The engineers have been to my house many times and they still reufuse to replace my fridge (even when the engineer says its beyond repair)and try to fob me off with another part to fix it.. After sales are rubbish, avoid this fridge !!! I bought mine under two years ago and like everyone else here, the handle snapped within a very short space of time. What annoys me most is that now there's a problem with the thermostat or something - it tends to chill ok for a while, then stops, although the light remains on. Can't afford the disgraceful fees that their engineers charge for a call-out, so I'll probably have to buy a much cheaper and smaller fridge to keep my food in - shame, as I bought the fridge and freezer because they matched. Now the back wall solid with ice. Hotpoint is very poor. I bought a mistral hotpoint in 1994 and gave it away when we moved and it is still working. Quality has gone down hill since. Why haven't Hotpoint brought out a more robust replacement? Maybe because they're making so much money from us consumers paying for them to be replaced constantly. Rating: ![]() Reviewed by val ward on 02/10/2010 Rubbish handle as everyone else and salad drawer broken if Hoptoint know this is a design fault why are they not correcting it? Bought the item in Sep 09 so out of warranty and Hotpoint not interested - free parts warrantly for five years only applies if you use their engineers for repairs and call out is extortionate. Another con by Hotpoint I will NEVER buy a Hotpoint applicance again - less than 2 years and I have to look for a new appliance. Rating: ![]() Reviewed by Karen C on 19/03/2010 Similar to the others. Our second handle in 15 months has just snapped. Clear desing fault (interesting the one on the equivalent freezer is a far more robust design). Sald tray also snapped. Too few shelve and too little choice on their positionning. Not the standard I owuld expect. Have had 3 replacements in warranty though the last one was a different colour as original colour no longer available. Hotpoint sent us seal breakers last time we complained but no instructions as to how / where to fit them. Rating: ![]() Reviewed by brendan murphy on 19/09/2008 bought on 9/9/07. handle was always loose and is now broke off. door is almost impossible to open as the magnetic sealing strip seems way too strong(a real pain). one shelf has broke as the little plastic side strips are far too weak. other two shelfs are already cracked. fridge still working(amazingly)thats the only good thing about it. worst buy of my life. complete rubbish. dont touch it. P.S. I see they changed the shelves on the newer ones already. Lucky me. Rating: ![]() Reviewed by Sue Leslie on 05/09/2008 While the actual appliance is spacious and a good product the door handle is totally inadequate and since I took delivery in Feb 2008 the handle has broken four times!!!! The last time an engineer came out to rplace it and this lasted the least amount of time. I have read other reviews and this problem appears widespread. This is a design fault and as the door is so heavy the plastic handle is useless. The last time it broke it actually caused an injury. Hotpoint now say i need a new door?????? Rating: ![]()
