Reviewed by Lauren mcelwee on 25/11/2011Bought this freezer also in 2009 worked fine for the first couple of months then the problems started to occur. Called engineer out the first time as the freezer was making a loud rumbling noise like the motor was packing up then The noise would go causing the freezer to defrost completely, engineer came out diagnosed the problem replaced a few parts then it worked again for about 2-3 months. Again the problem started called engineer who came out to defrost the freezer.... With a hair dryer... 4 visits later from the engineer we have still not found why it keeps breaking down. last visit was only a week ago so we should be ok to keep food for about 8 weeks, worst freezer I have ever bought heard of or seen.WOULD DEFINATELY REFRAIN FROM BUYING THIS PRODUCT !!!! Don't bother you be wasting your money. Rating: Reviewed by Mrs H on 14/09/2011 I bought my f/f in Jan 2009. Since Sept of last year constant problems with freezer. The temp is too high. It won't freeze fresh food and I have to check everyday that frozen food is ok. Ice cream is a no no as it turns to liquid. A friend suggested turning the power off for a few mins and then on again so that it could reset itself but that didn't work. Yesterday at 4pm I put a plastic container with about an inch of water in at the bottom of the freezer no other foodstuff in contact so plenty of room for cold air to circulate. Today at 1pm (21hrs) water still liquid not an icicle in sight. Hotpoint want too much money to check it out so am looking for a replacement but it won't be Hotpoint. Would purchase again. Haven't experienced any of the problems mentioned by other reviewers., Rating: Reviewed by rebecca on 08/07/2010 My Mom and Dad bought this is jan 2009, was loosing freezer temp and they had the engineer out it appears the fault is a manufacturing fault but they have to pay 170.00 for them to repair it as it is now out of warranty, I don't see why they should have to pay for a known fault which appears on every review page i have read about fluctuating temperature. Hotpoint are the worst customer service company i have heard about. You don't expect to pay 350.00 for it to break down 17 months later.. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. When i was younger hotpoint were one of the market leaders in durability but won't touch one with a barge pole. Have a look at the Bosch products, i knw they are more expensive but they last for ever. Make sure its german bosch not french bosch. french is cheap. Rating: Reviewed by Ros on 27/04/2010 I have had this fridge/freezer since June 2009 and i am fed up with salad stuff in the drawers at the bottom freezing and having to throw it away.The control knob is only on number 1 so why it keeps freezing is beyond me.I have tried everything in the manual to cure it. So i am throwing in the towel and getting a new one, but it wont be a Hotpoint. Rating: Reviewed by Shaun on 13/11/2009 Absolute junk! Didn't review this product before I bought which is unusual for me and has taught me a lesson, anyway I thought it would be half decent at almost £300. As soon as 1 year manufacture's warranty ran out it started freezing up and freezer couldn't get below minus 10, fan packed in. You can't adjust the freezer temperature! Fridge froze things at the bottom and couldn't get below 6 degrees at the top. Engineers wanted a fortune just to look at it but try and fix it yourself and you can't even get in to the thing to change a fuse. Have now seen lots of reviews and no one has a good word to say about it, quite the opposite. DON'T BUY THIS CHEAPLY BUILT RUBBISH! Rating: Reviewed by carol on 30/09/2009 my son and his partner purchased this product in september last year (2008) from Empire Direct who are now no longer in business. He has had trouble with the freezer compartment for a while now. The problem being that the freezer is just not doing its job. Frozen food is not being kept frozen and it will not freeze food either. Temperature is too high ranging from minus 1 to minus 8. It only goes down to the minus 8 if the fast freeze is on. once it is turned off the temperature rises to minus one. Frost has built up badly in this frost free product. Having trouble getting help to remedy as store from which it was purchased gone out of business so trying to get help of hotpoint. This has taken time and now product out of warranty. Product not fit for purpose and hope to persuade hotpoint to fix or replace with a product that works. Have read reviews on several sites stating the same problem with this product. Think again if you were pondering purchasing this one. Rating: Reviewed by David Meiklejohn on 22/07/2009 Bought this model in February 2009 and I have had nothing but problems since May 2009 with freezer not freezing. Told it needed one part to be replaced, now told it needed four parts to be replaced. Now 22 July 2009 still waiting for repair to be carried out. I had my last Hotpoint for 17 years and it is working in my friends house. Now fighting for a replacement, but I will not accept a frost free model. Rating: Reviewed by Helen Megraw on 04/04/2009 Bought this model in September and have had it repaired in January, it just stops freezing, currently awaiting a part (three weeks) after returning home from holidays in March to find it had defrosted again. I had my last Hotpoint for 10 years and it is still going strong at my daughter's. This one is complete rubbish and I am fighting for a replacement which will certainly not be a Hotpoint!!
