Reviewed by Poppy on 02/05/2011 Not too long ago I was home alone whilst my mum and brother were at the shops, they had only been gone for five minutes, when suddenly I heard the fire alarm I had rushed downstairs and saw smoke everywhere, I went into the kitchen and saw red flames, I had tried to get out but it was locked, so I had to get out through a different door, which meant having to move things out of the way first. When I got out I ran to some neighbours who got our parrot out, who sadly died a few weeks later. Turned out it was the Hotpoint FDW60 that started the fire, I wouldn't buy one if I were you. Reviewed by max on 25/04/2011 3 heating elements and 2 water pumps on a FDW20 dishwasher , i NEVER buy hotpoint again , they used to be good products ,also had similar issues with their washing machines.. if they have faith in their product why only a one year guarantee Rating:
Reviewed by Caffery on 25/01/2011 Got this dishwasher for 4 1/2 years and in last two years I had to change 3 (yes three!) heating elements. Now, I got the same problem again. After spending around £130.00 on 3 heating elements (luckily I know how to replace them) I'm not spending another £42.00-£44.00 on fourth heating element. It's time for replacement but I'm certainly sure it won't be Hotpoint. Never, ever in my life! Rating:
Reviewed by Evans on 22/01/2011 Never buy hotpoint again! Horible machine, Never washed well, even with a small load would bake the food on instead of washing off, Then as seems the case with these machines one month after warranty ran out Alarm....heater eliment, got fixed £120 then three weeks later AL10 again and again, read loads of revews on the web all said rubbish, so cut my losses went out and bought a siemens, wash seems much better.. And the hotpoint? well it's were it belongs, in a skip at the tip! after 20months! Rating:
Reviewed by Peter Cook on 17/10/2010 I've had mine for years (+7) and it's had a hard life but I've had no problems - just needed clean the filter out now and again, making sure it's replaced properly, incorrect replacement of the filters is possibly the cause of the dirty dishes mentioned below? I do agree the cutlery holder is below par but I've not needed to replace it as there are only two (avoidable) small holes now where utensils could drop through and prevent the lower arm from rotating. Maybe I've just been lucky 'till now! Rating:
Reviewed by Lagerman on 05/10/2010 Absolute rubbish. Delicate wash light flashed after about a year. After looking on various forums, seems a common problem ie heating element. No one has a good word to say about this model!!! Rating:
Reviewed by Mathew Fitzpatrick on 16/08/2010 Our first and last Hotpoint dishwasher. It's less than 2 years old and has failed (suspected heater element) and even when it worked it never performed at all well and was known as the dish dirtier in the house as most of the time I ended up washing things in the sink after the dishwasher had attempted to wash them. The cutlery holder has fallen apart as well so sometimes knives fall through and stop the bottom arm from spinning. Don't be fooled by the 5 years free parts warranty as this is only valid when you use a Hotpoint engineer, which is over £100 for a callout. I wish I had spent a bit more and bought a Bosch or similar. My parents have a 7+ year old Bosch which performs as well as the day it was made... My advice is DO NOT BUY A HOTPOINT DISHWASHER! Either pay a bit more and get a quality product or pay a lot less and replace every couple of years... Rating:
Reviewed by Janet Fennings on 08/03/2010 I have had my hotpoint for 2 -3 years and it never cleans all the dishes properly. I had an old Hotpoint for 20 years which cleaned everything perfectly so went straight back to Hotpoint but won't use them again. My daughter lives in France and has exactly the same machine but under a different name and hers is dreadful! Always washing stuff up in the sink afterwards. A really bad buy. Rating:
Reviewed by katie w on 10/02/2010 a note to anyone considering this dishwasher - DON'T DO IT! FEEL LIKE THROWING THE THING OUT THE WINDOW ITS FOREVER BREAKING DOWN. NEVER HAD PROBLEMS LIKE THIS WITH DISHWASHERS IN THE PAST Rating:
Reviewed by Paul Harding on 13/12/2009 Bottom tray is unbalanced and tips forward if the contents are not evenly distributed. Wash is poor leaving food baked onto plates and the cutlery basket break Leaving knives and forks to fall through the holes in the basket and catch on the bottom of the machine which in turn causes damage to crockery clatering together. Now on our third cutlery basket within cutler basket in 10 months. Absolutely dreadful machine. Rating:
Reviewed by Rik Barnes on 03/04/2009 Dreadful machine, never fully finishes a cycle, lights always flash with a problem, it cooks mess onto plates and cups and doesn't always release the tablet tray. Buy something else!! Rating:
Reviewed by Rob Sloan on 15/02/2009 RUBBISH - I had to replace the heating element only 18 months after I had bought the machine. After going on a number of forums I can see this is a common fault. Rating:
Reviewed by Rourkie on 10/11/2008 DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE! It is awful. I've had it fixed 6 times in 2 years and Hotpoint's customer service with regards to this machine is as reliable as the machine itself! Please choose another one! Rating:
Reviewed by cj on 03/05/2008 Hotpoint aquarius FDW20 - agree with jean bacon - very annoying - I have the same problem, bottom of the cutlery tray broken away! Apart from that the dishwasher itself is very good, sometimes the dial sticks but wash is good. Rating:

Reviewed by Imaq on 18/02/2008 The Worst ever I had. Broke Down after 12 months or so.The Have it repaired (took nearly two months it never fixed despite several visits), broke down again in a month! Reviewed by D Spellman on 23/11/2007 Looks the same model as the Hotpoint Aquarius I bought from Costco in March. It never cleaned as well as the previous Bosch, started to get an intermittant fault where the wash would stop and the lights flash. Also started not releasing the tablet, still in warranty but took it back to Costco for refund. Rating:
Reviewed by Geoff B on 28/10/2007 Dreadful, badly designed cutlery basket lets handles drop through and stop spray arm, upper shelf is poor design, all the angles are wrong, upgraded from a 15 year old hotpoint(gave to freecycle) which held more and was working well, just didnt match new kitchen. what a mistake. Does not get crockery clean and glasses are a disaster particularly upper basket, actually bakes the crud on. Seems to be a problem with the filter in the base it doesnt fit. It also does not dry properly. Only plus point is its quiet. Atleast its still working after 6 months but maintenance contractlooks a must. RUBBISH DESIGN. Rating:
