Reviewed by Sam on 18/04/2012'stylish piece of junk' well said Graham. Smeg is all about sleek design. Good performance, customer satisfaction, reliability, even fit for purpose does not seem to be anywhere on Smeg's map. Rating: ![]() Reviewed by Graham on 02/05/2010 A stylish piece of junk! Mine started to go wrong the moment it was out of warranty, and is now on it's way to the tip first thing in the morning. Along with the SMEG microwave that I bought at the same time, which blew itself to bits after 2 years, and the supposedly frost free fridge freezer which has to be defrosted at least once a month, these have to be the worst household appliances I have ever bought. Repair is expensive too, and in the case of both the cooker and the micro would have cost considerably more than a decent quality new replacement. I wish I knew then what I know now about SMEG products and I could have saved myself nearly 2K, if you want something that looks great but don't care if it works or not then maybe this is for you, but if reliability is important to you then look elsewhere. Rating: ![]() Reviewed by Ulrike on 06/02/2010 I have to agree with the comment here. This cooker has striking looks but ultimately just isn't worth the money due to problems with the reliability of the oven, and poor design of the grill. The fan oven element on mine has gone 3 times. The last time it damaged the wiring circuit and we had to get both the cooker and wiring repaired. To be honest I am now a bit worried that it is dangerous, especially since my small children like looking at the mirror glass door when it is on and might get electrocuted next time it fails. SMEG claim their products are designed for 15 years, but this is simply marketing spin in the case of this cooker. They should have recalled this product. There is also a second thing you might want to consider if you are thinking of buying one. It is a non-standard width so it is very difficult to find another cooker to fit the same space if you do decide to replace it at any point. Rating: ![]() Reviewed by Faye on 20/12/2009 I like the look of my SMEG oven, and the fan oven is great when it works, but after only 18 months the heating element on the fan oven has gone again for the second time! Sunday dinner ruined for a second time! SMEG did replace the element free of charge the first time even though the cooker was just out of warranty, and I was very happy with the level of customer service received the first time, but I didn't expect the repair to only last 6 months. Rating: ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Jackie on 07/11/2008 I agree with the previous comments, I have had my smeg cooker for 6 years and it has been repaired under warranty 8 times. each time it was the heating element. The heating element has gone again and I was on the internet looking for a replacement element when I saw this comment. It has to be the worst appliance I have ever bought. One more comment about the grill. Not only is it enormous but when you try to use it, because it is inside the oven, it fills the kitchen with smoke and set all of the alarms off. Rating: ![]() Reviewed by Celi on 14/05/2008 Bought this cooker about 6 years ago and it began going wrong almost instantly. Had it repaired under warranty around 5 times and since then it has been out of warranty and been repaired twice more. The electrical ignition failed within a year, the oven sides fell off, the rotisserie only ever worked intermittently and even then you had to jam bits of wood in to stop it slipping out, and the temperature failsafe mechanism puts the sensor unit so close to the oven air outflow that is melts approximately once a year and costs about £200 to replace. Plus the bottom cover (for the oven tray storage) fell off. All within 6 years when it is supposed to last at least 15. I have only continued to repair it as I cannot bear the thought of all that resource material going to waste but now it has gone again and is going in the bin. In case anyone thinks I got a poor model the repair engineer said every SMEG cooker he has repaired has been the same-constantly going wrong and wi th poor design. Oh and the design is awful- there is only one shelf in the oven which doesnt quite fit two standard oven trays so you have an apparently huge oven but with hardly any capacity, and the grill is the full width of the oven so it feels like you are firing up a nuclear reactor just to grill 2 fishfingers. All in all I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole and will never buy anything by SMEG again....
