Reviewed by Maureen Laverty on 07/12/2009 I bought a new Hotpoint GW38 nearly a year ago, just a week before Christmas, because the oven of our 24 year old Cannon range had conked out completely and we needed something to cook dinner on .. as time was of the essence, I couldn't really shop around the way I would've liked to, as I also needed to hire a corgi registered fitter to install the cooker .. Long story short .. I am very disappointed with this cooker .. firstly, the grill handle is not fixed and therefore very fiddley to use, never mind down right dangerous .. I gave up trying and use very thick oven gloves now .. The oven is all but useless .. it takes over an hour to make a small portion of oven chips because the temperature drops so quickly and doesn't seem to stay hot for very long at all. The automatic switches can take quite a few seconds holding them in, to spark up .. I'm glad to say I'm moving house in January and leaving the Hotpoint behind ! .. I'm not sure if it's a case of you get what you pay for ? .. I know £350 + £60 installation is not the most expensive cooker money can buy but surely you'd expect the oven to operate properly, at least ? The reason I'm checking reviews is to try and find a gas cooker that does exactly what it says on the box .. is that too much to ask in this world of 'throw-a-way' appliances ? .. I hope not .. To anyone thinking of buying a Hotpoint GW38, I'd say don't bother wasting your money. Rating:
