Reviewed by jace on 10/03/2010 My cooker is 3 years old. Main oven element gone twice cost each time £60 when you do it yourself other than that it has been quite good I shouid just point out that the reason for the element going is when you put things in the oven you hit the back which causes it to hit the element and that burns it out. Reviewed by Happydadtoo on 21/01/2008 I have recently bought one of these cookers second-hand on a well-known auction site for £140. The ceramic top wipes clean in a few moments and both heats and cools quickly. There is a safety light indicating that the top is hot and that you should be careful. The controls are easy to turn and set, whilst the oven timers also work well and, crucially, are easy to set! I have used copper-based stainless steel pans on them (they warn you to use very flat-bottomed pans) and find they heat up as quickly as any other electric cooker and soon reach a high temperature. The top oven (cat B) is superb - not only can you use it as a grill (half or whole area) but it is also quick to heat up and more than adequate for 'ready-meals' or for cooking for two. The main oven (cat A) heats up even more quickly and cooks evenly. It's so big that our family Christmas turkey went in with more than enough space over for all the potatoes too. I have cooked many cakes in it without any problems - any oven is hotter around the edges, so placing the c ake-tins away from the side is hardly a problem. My cooker is several years old and a friend has a slightly earlier model that is 15 years old and has hyad no problems whatever. The instruction booklet is also easy to follow and includes some aditional information on what cooks best where. I'd STRONGLY recommend this cooker to anyone - they are around £400 new and second-hand cookers (I have never bought new in 35 years) are tremendous value. Spares are no problem to obtain and you can even fit tyhem yourself with comparative ease. My motehr's Belling is now over 55 years old - and Belling are STILL able to supply a small spring that breaks occasionally.......... Rating:
Reviewed by Peggy on 01/05/2007 I would expect more from a cooker in this price range. The top oven is rubbish, never reaches a high temperature, ok for grilling but not for baking. The main oven on mine cooks uneven. Cakes are always burnt on one side. The Fastlite (right!) hob is too slow and therefore useless for sealing steaks quickly unless you leave the pan on there for 5 mins on highest heat before you pop the meat in. And now, after just 3 years the heating element on the main oven has had it... Call out for Belling engineer £ 80 plus cost of spares. Hmmm... Rating:
