Reviewed by sean on 14/12/2011Its Italian, therefore the electrical switches lifespan is measured in days rather than years. it looks good, but something with "made in Germany" on the bottom will be better and generally be half the price. It's only for looking at, not for making coffee. ( the switch thing its nothing to do with the casisng catching the switch, the hard contacts inside the switch are of such a poor quality the contacts burn then weld themselves on or melt the switch so they wont contact. The latter is a pain the first is down right dangerous) Rating: ![]() Reviewed by Atanas Ivanov on 21/05/2011 I like the machine but .... All three switches are gone after 2 years and I am struggling to find replacement. The cup warming plate is not properly clamped and the clamping elements are getting rusty. When the pump works the warming plate vibrates and makes unpleasant noise. Rating: ![]() ![]() Reviewed by Coffee, snob on 27/03/2011 Water tank is difficult to remove but you dont have to remove it regularly as it is designed so that you just gently push the tank to the left and an open portion is revealed for filling, genius! Steam switch stuck out on mine, cause: excessive heat (probably left on too long) melted a part of the switch but easy to diy work on, new switch and away i go again. Would deffinately have another Cubika. Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reviewed by dragontest on 10/02/2009 Early Gaggia Cubika switches did develop or have a known problem of sticking behind the stainless steel casing, causing the switch to eventually fail. However, a replacement upgrade switches cost £20 for all 3 switches, that works out at about £6.67 for a switch! The new switches are much better and don't fail like the old style. If you send you machine back to Gaggia UK for a service the switches are replaced for the new type as part of the service if they are the old type or show any signs of wearing, all the parts are checked including the thermostats and the water output temperature is checked, the heating elements are replaced if they don't reach the required temperature so you end up with a nearly new machine for the cost of a service. The water tank slides to the side for filling and is removed by sliding forward, the pickup pipes do get in the way till you have gained the "knack" but you don't remove the water tank all the time. The Gaggia Cubika takes espresso ground coffee and standard coffee pods (you can make tea also) and different size coffee holder (1 or 2 cup size ) is available from the makers. I'm now buying my 2nd Cubika as I like the robust stainless steel quality (no plastic or fancy LCD displays to bust)and ease of repair should it need fixing being a nut and screw assembly. The Gaggia Cubika uses traditional quality Gaggia technology to make perfect espresso coffee. well worth the money as mine has been working for nearly 8 years making regular coffee for two... only down side is you need to let the machine warm up as its not instant, its just like a normal kettle... simply turn it on and go and do something for about 5 Min's and its at working temperature I normally set / lay the table ready for lunch/evening meal and its ready to make coffee...
