Reviewed by tomwol on 25/10/2007 I just recently aquired a second hand one , it has low hours,4 years old, mine has the honda gx160 5.5hp engine, the engine is great but thats where the story ends, the rest of the mower, well if your not a lawnmower mechanic you will be at a dissadvantage, first thing to go wrong was the dead man cable,it constantly played up and shut the machine down during use,the fitting at the top on the handlebars,at the base of the cable needs repairs also at the bottom where it does two things it shuts off the engine and applys the brake, the cable holder end needs constant adjustment to line up properly then the cable itself doesnt run smoothly even with a can of silicone spray,it jams like a door that does not shut properly Secondly the gearbox has little protection from dirt and sand the sand and dirt accumulates around the idler pulley,s which sits under a plastic cover behind the engine you have to pull it off after every lawn and blow out all the dirt and grass that accumulates near it,it will wear out the pullys and belts quickly,if not then the travel speed cable gets jammed and comes loose, near it also lies the gearbox engagement cable which also comes loose, thirdly the deck wears out at an astounding quick rate due to the huge blade which is a good point,as it picks up anything the deck is trully well shaped, much better than hondas very good for wet grass, but unfortunately the places that have the metal protection strips under the deck are in all the wrong places, every day I start it a new hole appears in the deck especially near where the pully holder bolt goes through to the deck ,any day now that whole area will wear out and the belts pully holder wil just drop out .Ive patched it with a piece of thin steel and some liquid steel, but this is only temporary, the bag catcher does not fitt well when started it cover the operator in dust and grass, and to the blade well the blade they say it lasts along time being 4mm thick ,most people who look at the blade for the first time think that it would, I live in australia I've just mowed 7 lawns and its a third worn out ,at $90 a blade Im hoping not to have to by another one as the machine is adervertised for sale, and you guessed it I will not buy another one again,Its one machine thats not hard to hate.
