Hayter Harrier 48 Blade Brake Clutch
Product Rating
This Harrier 48 Rear Roller Rotary has a Blade Brake Clutch incorporated into its design. This clutch mechanism can stop the cutterblade within 3 seconds without stopping the engine. A friction disc is not available on this model.
The rear roller allows the machine to give the traditional striped finish and to cut over the lawn edge. With the cutterbar raised slightly rougher areas can also be cut with ease.
Features of the Hayter Harrier 48 Blade Brake Clutch include:
- Briggs & Stratton Quantum XTS 50 I/C Power engine for reliability and easy starting
- 48cm width of cut
- Strong aluminium deck for durability
- Front fins on deck noticeably improves the quality of cut that can be obtained
- 7 cutting heights ranging from 13 - 65mm adjusted by a single lever
- Grassbag can be lifted through handlebars for ease of emptying
- Handlebars can be adjusted to suit the height of the user

Reviewed by Harry on 10/03/2007 A good mower, but then it ought to be for the price! I have been using this mower for the past two years and it has been reliable so far. It seems to be built to last, and I have had no problems like the previous reviewer describes. I would say that it doesn't always cut as well as I had hoped, especially if the grass is not completely dry, and I admit that for the money I paid, I was expecting better. Rating:
Reviewed by David Smythe on 30-07-2005 I have had a string of Hayter mowers, and have worn out each before replacing. They have had very few problems .... until the Hayter Harrier 48 with its Blade Clutch. The Clutch literally broke in half at the end of the 1st grass cutting season, and was replcaed under the warranty. The second clutch has lasted 1 and a half seasons, and has just broken. I am hoping that it will be replaced under the 3 year warranty. This is not good enough. My mower cuts for two hours a week all season, and I am careful with my machinery. It is very difficult to engage the clutch completely smoothly, but I do my best. The disengagement mechanism is very abrupt - there is no choice in the matter, and I suggest that the build is simply not robust enough to take this type of strain each time you stop to empty the grassbox. I would be interested to see if any other people have had similar difficulties. Rating:
