Reviewed by A Robinson on 21/06/2010I am a gardener and I use the Rotak 43 on several medium sized lawns and one really large lawn. It gives a great close finish (if required) and is by far the best electric mower I have had -for the price it is an excellent buy. Contrary to an earlier review I found the grass box easy to assemble and think it will be sturdy enough to do its job. Similarly, however, I found the height adjustment awkward until I turned the whole mower on its side and got the feel of the action needed. I don't see any problems in the future. Indeed I found the height differences easy to arrive at and both positive and clear. In use it was superb, the cutting was great and the grass box really effective an able to compact the cuttings well. It made me wonder how much I had been struggling with the flymo hover mower. All in all the lawn I have seemed to be a much easier affair to cut and tidy up! I agree with the earlier reviewer's criticism of the of the lack of a safety connector. I have already fitted the one from the Flymo which has already gone to the tip. I am really pleased with it! It is almost impossible to hold the parts in position and I felt as if I was constantly in danger of breaking it. Having finally assembled the two bottom pieces, the top section was even worse! The finished assembly looks very cheap and full of gaps - not exactly a great start. Then there is the blade adjustment lever. It is poorly designed and so difficult to move that I feel sure that many people simply won't be able to move it. Worst of all, the 20m cable is wired directly into the mower, with no safety connector that would also enable you to detach the cable for storage. Where on earth are you supposed to put it? It already had a tangle in it at the mower end, which meant feeding the whole 20 metres of cable through the knot to straighten it out. I feel that this is an unforgiveable design fault. I have yet to use the mower, but although I have read good reports of its cutting abilities, I don't feel confident that the grass box will either stay attached to the mower - that's if it doesn't fall apart.
