Nintendo Wii

Product Rating

Nintendo Wii Wii (pronounced 'we') is Nintendo's new home video game console that represents a radical step into a new era of entertainment. For years, video games have been growing in popularity but also in complexity. With Wii, Nintendo changes the way you play by maximising the fun and minimising the fuss.

The Wii console and its revolutionary motion-sensitive controller, the Wii Remote, have been designed so that anyone can enjoy games, whatever their ability or experience. Wii is also much more than a mere games console. With the built-in Wii Channels you can surf the internet, edit your digital photos, check the news and weather, and much more. Whether you're an experienced gamer, haven't played for years, or have never played in your life, Wii has what you're looking for: fun!

Features of the Nintendo Wii include:

  • Controls - Intuitive control for anyone using the physical motion of the main Wii Remote, which resembles a television remote control. Up to four Wii Remotes can be connected at once using wireless Bluetooth technology. The wireless signal can be detected within 10 metres of the console. Both the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers include a three-axis motion sensor. The Wii Remote also includes a speaker, rumble feature and expansion port, and can be used as a pointer within 5 metres of the screen. The Wii Remote has a power switch, +Control Pad, A, B, - Button, + Button, Home, 1 and 2 buttons. The Nunchuk includes an analogue control stick and C and Z buttons.
  • The Look - The Wii console features a compact design that will make it a natural addition to any television setup. It can be displayed either vertically or horizontally
  • Size - Approximately the size of three stacked DVD cases, the Wii console's elegant design makes it an inviting addition to your entertainment setup without monopolising it. Thanks to the Wii Remote, you're given more freedom to place the console where it best suits your lifestyle.
  • Media - A single self-loading media bay will play single- or double-layered 12-centimetre optical discs for Wii, as well as 8-centimetre Nintendo GameCube discs.
  • Communication - The Wii console can communicate with the Internet even when the power is turned off. This WiiConnect24 service delivers a new surprise or game update, even if users do not play with Wii. Users can connect wirelessly using IEEE 802.11b/g, or with a USB 2.0 LAN adaptor. Wii also can communicate wirelessly with Nintendo DS.
  • Virtual Console - The Wii console will have downloadable access access to 20 years of fan-favourite titles originally released for Nintendo 64, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and even the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). The Virtual Console also will feature a "best of" selection from Sega Mega Drive titles and games from the TurboGrafx console (a system jointly developed by NEC and Hudson). It also will be home to new games conceived by indie developers whose creativity is larger than their budgets.
  • Specs - The Wii console boasts 512 megabytes of internal flash memory, two USB 2.0 ports and built-in Wi-Fi capability. A bay for an SD memory card will let players expand the internal flash memory. Design was optimised with state-of-the-art processing technologies that minimise power consumption, keep the console compact and enable the "sleepless" WiiConnect24 mode.
  • CPU - PowerPC CPU (code-named "Broadway"). Made with a 90 nm SOI CMOS process, jointly developed with and manufactured by IBM. Graphics Processing Unit: Being developed with ATI.
  • Four ports for classic Nintendo GameCube controllers. Two slots for Nintendo GameCube Memory Cards. An AV Multi-output port for component, composite or S-video.

I think this console is for under 15's as older guy wants to have a intense gaming and this console doesn't produce that intense as its graphics and games are that the attraction for the older guys but this console is good to buy for a child under 15's and it will keep them quite for a while untill they grow up and wanting violent games e.g gears of war

By now nearly every kid really wants a Nintendo Wii and begging their parents for one. The Nintendo Wii doesn't have good graphics and the the Playstation2, playstation3, xbox and xbox360 is better than the Nintendo Wii. You can have fun with it but not as much fun than any other console.

If you want graphics and have money to burn get an Xbox 360 or a Playstation 3. If you just want to have fun, hours and hours and hours of it, every week, get a Wii. I tried the high-definition tennis game on a friend's Xbox 360 a couple of days ago and after the Wii it was about as much fun as watching paint dry, it just felt silly and pathetic. Playing tennis on the Wii is really playing tennis, who cares that the players look like Playmobil figures. One warning: DON'T get the Tiger Woods golf game. It's a hasty port of the other versions and it doesn't work on the Wii at all. There is no real support for the Wii remote and the player will often swing and hit before you've even moved the controller, messing up your score, and this happens several times in every game.
