Nintendo DS Lite
Product Rating
When you hear that your favourite product has gone 'Lite' it usually means something is missing; no sugar, fewer calories…basically less enjoyable.
But Nintendo DS Lite is different. It's a sleeker version of the multi-million selling DS that has amazingly bright dual screens and is more comfortable to use - plus it still plays all your DS games (and GBA games too!). In keeping with its smart design, Nintendo DS Lite comes in a choice of two fashion-conscious colours: stylish white or sleek black. Whichever you pick, the wide range of features is the same; and you'll be amazed by what we've packed in.
Features of the Nintendo DS Lite include:
- Size - Put the DS Lite next to its older brother and you'll immediately see the difference. Pick them up and you'll feel the difference too. Nintendo DS Lite is less than two-thirds the size of the original DS and 20% lighter.
- Design - Like a James Bond gadget, the DS Lite hides its technology inside an innocent-looking clamshell design that when flipped open reveals the dual screens and controls inside. Safety and style in perfect harmony.
- Screens - One word: "Wow!" Nintendo DS Lite's screens are so bright and sharp that the original DS literally pales in comparison. It's all thanks to the DS Lite's fully transparent LCDs (liquid crystal displays) as opposed to the original's semi-transparent LCDs. By touching an icon on the start-up screen you can choose four levels of brightness too (level one is about at bright as the original DS).
- Controls - The DS Lite's controls may look the same as before but they feel very different. The +Control Pad and A, B, X, Y, L & R buttons have been redesigned so that they're softer to press and have a pleasingly non-slip rubbery coating.
- Stylus - The new Nintendo DS may have shrunk but its stylus has grown. The DS Lite stylus is longer and thicker, making it more comfortable for bigger hands to hold. The stylus now securely slots into the side of the DS rather than the top.
- Microphone - Where's the Microphone gone? Don't panic - we've simply moved it to a better location: the middle of the DS between the screens, making it easier for software like Dr Kawashima's Brain Training to pick up the sound of your voice.
- Power - Gaming goes on longer with DS Lite, thanks to the improved battery life. With the screen set to minimum brightness you can squeeze up to 19 hours of juice out the Lite, compared the original DS's 10 hours (time may vary depending on software). With the screen on full brightness, you're still looking at up to 8 hours of dazzlingly-lit gaming. Plus, the power button has been moved to the side of the system and is now a sliding switch to prevent it being pressed by accident during gameplay. The built-in rechargeable battery has been improved too, requiring only three hours to reach full charge - one hour less than before.
- Games - Naturally, Nintendo DS Lite plays all Nintendo DS games. In fact, with the new screen, it plays them even better! Classic titles like Super Mario 64 and Mario Kart DS look even more vivid and colourful on the DS Lite. And to maintain the system's smooth contours, the GBA Game Pak slot is now protected by a removable cover.
- And more - Don't forget that Nintendo DS Lite can do everything Nintendo DS can do; like touch screen controlled gameplay, wireless multiplayer action with friends locally or via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, a surround sound effect through its two built-in speakers, impressive 3D graphics, built-in PictoChat wireless messaging, a clock and alarm… The system may be light but its features are anything but!

Reviewed by A on 15/08/2008 I have a limited edition american Cobalt Blue/ Black, it is outstanding that I paid £89 for a ds lite, legend of zelda: phantom hourglass, a duo game case and a comfort stylus. I can't believe it! Get it from the US! Rating:
Reviewed by Mike McDade on 06/08/2008 The button on the DS lite arn't as good as the original DS but other then that its a great upgrade. The screen is bright, even usable outside on sunny days. The games load in a flash unlike the constant loading screens that drive me mad on the PSP. The real winning though is the touch screen, when ots used well and not just as a gimmic by poor programming houses it really takes this a step above the PSP. The battery life is incredible, I charge it about once a week compared to the PSP every other day when its in use (which is not often now i've got the DS). Best handheld ever! Rating:

Reviewed by tubz84 on 02/01/2008 really poor console, psp for the poor and immature thats what the ds is. Annoying things about this console: - all the games are mario or donkey kong or zelda, it has no proper games like the psp -nintendo's frankly pathetic attempt at trying to make adults buy one buy putting brain training and sudoku on there, snore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - the only thing that attracts people to the ds is the touch screen, which is rubbish and breaks easily - stupid folding design, like phones and laptops the joints between the 2 parts are liable to snap and then you need to fork out another £100 if you want another one (which you shouldn't) - nintendo bringing them out in loads of colours to make them seem better, still the same rubbish console on the inside if you want a portable console get a psp, you can get them for about £100 - £140 and you can get movies for them, put music on them, put photos on them, surf the internet etc Rating:

Reviewed by Ifan on 18/04/2007 This console is a great portable console for anyone. It's better than the normal Nintendo DS because this one has more light on the screen. It can play Gameboy Advance games too and you can make a wireless connection with your friends if they have one too. You can download games from another Nintendo DSlite or just a normal one and play the game without multiplayer. If you want a fun portable console well here's the one for you. Rating:
