Reviewed by adi on 14-06-2006 I've had these babies for half an year now. During that time they managed to fill two things up : my room with music and my soul with joy. Let's start with the (relatively) non relevant info: I adore the looks of it, and the slim profile.I'm glad they don't really stand in my way as I move about in the room, which must be said, it's rather tiny. The sound : I didn't really expected this from a ported enclosure, but transient response in the bass area is great. Initially, having a small room, I was inclined for a 5.1 system. Hearing a selection of them, I couldn't escape the feeling that the subwoofers were trying too hard going as low as posible, without really being in their power to do that. You get some pretty impresive "woooooooooooohm", which is great for cinema, but...too many "o"-s for clean music. Not only the E80 has the "WOOOHM" with capital letters, but also far, far more control. Engineering-wise, I figure they must be having a great step response. On the mere mortals language, bass is very good. In my 30 sqm room, I use a pair of E80's without a subwoofer. The mids...truly powerful indeed. They seem to best like strings (more on the guitar side, less of a violin player) , flutes, and especially electronic stuff. The voice area is OK, although sometimes, on some recordings, that feature feminin voices in the alto register, things tend to get a little bit messy. I'm not entirely sure if it's the fault of the speakers or it's just my ears, not coping with very high SPL. The highs...one word : "scintilating" . As I was making this review, faced with the option of choosing the number of stars for this product, I went for 4 out of a maximum 5, being aware that perfection is not (easily) achievable, in any domain. But for the E80's tweeter I would honestly choose five and a half. I would like to listen to something with a beryllium dome at some point in my life, but until that point, the E80's titanium tweeter has it for me. Hard, precise, agressive, ear-hurting when it's about Terminator_style_glass_braking_or_Zorro-like_sword_crossing...or very, very sweet when things turn to soft midnight listening. Anyway...it's a vast and colourful world out there, and everyone's ears are different. Do try and listen a pair of E 80's, chances are you'll like them Rating:
