Reviewed by gareth on 03/08/2008 i have had the eltax symphony 8.3 for 2 years now i have used them regually and quite often my flat sounds like a dance club. There has never been a problem with them and after 2 years of pumping them they are still like i just bought them. My only concern is that they have stopped production of this line. They look fantastic and perform brilliantly Rating:

Reviewed by Steve M on 25/05/2007 I've had the 8.2s a few years now. I listen to Mahler, Motorhead and all points in between and outside on vinyl and cd. Bought them from a place where I could do a side by side comparison with 2 other makes (can't remember which). The sound is great but nearer to a monitor sound than a hifi speaker, doesn't spice the sound up; very clear. I've knocked them over and damaged the tweeter and woofer so I ordered spares over the internet without any hassle and at a reasonable price. I payed a lot more than £40 but I'm still happy. Reviewed by AB on 19/02/2007 I've been using the Symphony 8.3 speakers for 3 years now. They excel at classical, folk and jazz as well as ambient. That's not to say they aren't more than capable of providing very satisfactory performance for pop and rock. They aren't really a big boomy party speaker for people who favour loudness over quality, but they're great for home theater, SACD and DVD-Audio. The quoted 32-22KHz frequency range is actually smaller than I've measured with mine so real world response is better than quoted. The spikes on the bottom on the speakers make a big difference to their performance. I use these with their baby brother the Symphony 4.3 as rear speakers. I believe the 4.3s represented better value for money at the time of purchase and to my ears seem to be more of an all round speaker than the 8.3 which as I said excel at classical, folk and jazz, although that's fine for me. Finding a perfect centre speaker to match them proved difficult - as I could not obtain a Symphony Centre I had a Eltax Linear Response+ Centre forced upon me which has different driver units and a brighter more sparkley sound which isn't as smooth and lush as that from the 8.3s. Reviewed by R Ladd on 27-04-2005 Been looking for some floorstanders for some time - found these very cheaply through a catalogue clearance. At £40 thought I couldn't go far wrong, and took a chance. Excellent so far - the placement of these speakers is critical, at first the bass was a bit overpowering, but a bit of experimentation has given a nice balanced sound, with plenty of depth and volume. Importantly for me they sound very good at low volumes, with no tweaking of tone or loudness controls necessary. I use the speakers for listening to vinyl and CD, as well as hooked up to the TV. Sadly they show up how compressed the sound is from my freeview tv digibox! The sound great with vinyl and CD giving very clear imaging. Rating:
