Garmin StreetPilot c510 Review

The Garmin StreetPilot c510 is an entry level satellite navigation system.

The StreetPilot is easy enough to use, with a touchscreen display showing a 3D map of your location with turn-by-turn voice directions too. It's a very small screen however, at just 3.5 inches across, and easy to miss in busy driving conditions. The device uses a suction cup bracket attachment for convenient installation. The user interface is well designed, with options to look up addresses and to find additional points of interest such as cafes, petrol stations, parking, etc.

You can upgrade the StreetPilot c510 to receive traffic alerts with the optional TMC traffic receiver. Map coverage is preloaded and is restricted to the UK and Ireland, so you'll need to upgrade to the StreetPilot C550 if you plan to travel in Europe.

The Garmin Lock feature helps to prevent theft prevention. When locked, the device requires a 4-digit pin to unlock it, or the device can be taken to a predetermined location to unlock it. This should make the device less prone to theft.

The c510 provides core navigation functions, but lacks some of the extra features that are available on the more expensive models. Still, it does the job and is well priced, so if your budget is restricted it could be a good choice.
