Reviewed by M . Johnstone on 27/09/2007 I also have had the 42PX3RV since sept o5 and i have been very pleased with it.as said analog picture was unwatchable, but when i connected sky and dvd with HDMI capabilities the picture was very good indeed,so good that most lcd screens could only wish to produce such a picture.the HDMI port and my LG DV9000H player brought my dvd collection to life and the detail displayed was superb, nice blacks and whites detailed colours and clean crisp sharp images.using sky the unit has no problems at all and is quite bright for a plasma display.the sound is not the greatest though, but when coupled with a good surround sound system that doesnt really matter.all in all i have been very pleased with the 42PX3RV and wont hesitate to buy another LG display. Reviewed by digitalfife on 23/12/2006 I have had this model since Sept 05 and was never realy happy with it. From the start the PQ on terestial was not what I would call outstanding only fair. Displying a fair amount of noise, fizzing and colour banding. Things don't go much better with Sky or with a freeview adapted connected. Noise and fizzing were not as pronounced but still showing a fair amount of colour banding.
During the 15 months I had the unit, I had to have the unit uplifted by LG for commponent and RGB scart input issues. The PQ via commponent and RGB Scart was unwatchable, more so via commponent input. The colours being inaccurate. Using Ice Age as a reference snow and white areas of the picture had a very unhealthy yellow cast. Other sources with light picture contents showed similar problems. I also found that using other inputs any bright picture content would cause some very unstable effects on the contrast. Unfortunatly LG were unable to rectify this propblem to my satisfaction and the vendor couldn't care less. Purchased on-line via a well known AV supplier who gave me the worst service possible. I shall "directly" avoid this company in the future. However, connecting my Xbax 360 via RGB D-sup looked very good and using the 360 as a DVD player gave very good results. Sadly this didn't last for long as the D-sub input failed after only a few weeks use. During the problems with the PX3RVA I established a good relationship with the customer service manager at LG and must admit the service was second to none, even though they had my display in their hands for a total of 4 months. The service manager did let slip that the problems I was having was not uncommon and LG were aware of this. He also said that all LG could do was keep replacing the pcb's and could not guarentee that this type of problem would not return. He intimated that although LG make decent display panels but their electronics suck. I have had the unit back for about 6 months and the problems are still there, now minus the d-sub input. Using my PC monitor for the 360 and its great (only at 19". I wonder why this model is now unavailable in many stores in the UK ? after only such a short run....Would I recomend this model. NO I fairness I have seen other models in LG's stable and a very impressed. I have spent a lot of time reviewing and looking at the 42PC1D and as such have ordered this model which should be with me in a week or so.It even cost nearly 50% less than the PX3RVA it's replaceing. One would think that having had such a bad experience with the 42PX3RV would steer me away from LG. Not so. I have had quite a few products from them (4 PC monitors, Fridge freezers, washing machine ect) and have experienced no problems. Also their aftersales service was very good and highly recomended. Oh, by the way the 42PX3RVA is no longer with us. It suffered a terrible misshap a few weeks ago and now rests peacefully in the land of 3RVA's. Rating:
