Reviewed by April on 28/06/2010 Had this tv for just over 2years. We didn't get it out of the box for 5months due to major decoration, when we did the harddrive failed to work. 3 service visits later we had a new harddrive and all was ok. TV cost £700 and now we cannot use it as the colour on the screen flashes and merges, no idea why or how to fix it, so my review is poor as £350 a year for a tv on top of my virgin and tv licence fee's is ridiculous! Reviewed by Andy on 09/05/2010 Had this tv for about 2 years paid £699. Worked great until we had about 20 hrs used up on hard drive then had nothing but problems with the main one being the screen often froze when changing channels. Recordings sometimes failed and it wouldn't go in standby when recording. I was initially waiting for LG to bring out better models before complaining then I formatted the Hard drive (all recordings will be lost) one day when it completely packed up. not had any problems for last 18 months. Sound and picture good for price Rating:

Reviewed by Andy H on 21/05/2009 Thought this TV was excellent for about the first 12 months of owning it. Then I started getting the odd lock-up when changing channels on the built-in freeview. The only thing I could do was power it off and back on obviously losing any recordings that were running. You'd expect an £800 (at the time) TV to last more than a year. They don't make 'em like they used to I guess. Such a shame as the picture is great on all HD inputs bright vivid colours, fairly good blacks (for a plasma) only showing snaking when the brightness is set low. Rating:
Reviewed by Richard on 26/11/2008 Left hand speaker blew after 6 months. Took back to tesco who advised me to get money back and re-order. Originnally bought for £747.00 and now priced at £454.00. But cannot order as LG not making any longer. Replacement is now 42PG6900. Like the recordable hard drive, but may go to reccomended Panasonic TH-42PX80B Rating:
Reviewed by simon on 04/11/2008 had tv for 3months and now have flickering green dots all over screen!!!!! on all outputs including hdmi! returning 2morrow after having issues getting an engineer out to it as they expect me to take a full day off to wait for 1, more expenditure! i am now looking for another hd tv for under £600, any ideas? [Editor's reply: Simon, our users seem to rate Panasonic plasmas as the best. You might consider the Panasonic TH-42PX80B, although I have no personal experience with this model.] Rating:

Reviewed by STEVE on 03/05/2008 I was absolutely delighted with the LG42PT85. Picture quality and features of TV for price was very impressive, and set up of TV to run with my PC was Childs play. The TV worked with no problems for first six weeks then I started to have screen lock up on channel change I contacted LG who intern had they’re service contractors contact me. It took more than a week for them to collect the TV and then after another four weeks and numerous phone calls to LG service department and in the end to LG’s PR department ( I had to contact PR Dept LG have no customer complaints Dept ) I’ve finally been told that the TV is not a viable repair. I fully understand that defects occur in high tech equipment but it at times like these when you experience these problems you find out the true worth of the Quality and service behind the brand name, but sadly LG is the worst customer service department I’ve ever dealt with and LG is not a brand that I will be purchasing or recommending again in the future Rating:
