Reviewed by R Mitchell on 15/03/2009 Just purchased this plasma from richer sounds, it is outstanding value for money , better than any lcd ive seen Rating:
Reviewed by Geoff Neale on 08/01/2009 An absolutely STUNNING telly. Ignore LCD - if you want smooth, sharp picture quality and deep blacks, go for a Plasma. I bought this TV as I was repalcing a 32" Daewoo behemoth, but was concerned over the way blacks were shown on a LCD TV. I viewed a lot of LCD TV's and they all (without exception) had difficulty showing deep black and had moments, especially when things moved fast on scren, of colour banding. Considering how expensive these TV sets are (even at today's "cheap" prices), I wasn't prepared to ruining my viewing experience just because the telly was slimmer!! This is where the LG 32" plasma stands out - it's the only 32" plasma currently available - the next available size is 37" - but unfortunately, LG don't make one! It's design is sublime and picture quality is outstanding. Deep blacks, sharp picture quality, even when watching fast paced action (I watched Transformers and it looked awesome). Setup was a breeze. Out of the box (once you've attached the stand that is), setup takes 5 minutes after plugging it in and switching it on. All 5 analogue channels and all of teh freeview digital channels found in no time and setup automatically. The remote is very easy to use and is clearly labelled, with nice sized buttons. This TV also has 3 easy to access AV modes : Cinema, Games & Sport. Depending what you're watching (ie. film, football/sport or playing a games console) at the press of a button, you can select one of the preset AV modes and it'll adjust it's colour and brightness automatically. If that's not enough, you can adjust each of the settings manually to get it just right, but out of the box is very, very good. I've also played my Wii console on here and to be honest, the picture quality leaves my old CRT telly standing in the dust. I felt totally immersed in both Need for Speed underground and Mario Kart. The sound quality is immense too. This really helps you get into whatever it is you're watching. The car sounds in Need For Speed were so realistic and you truly believed the engine was rumbling around you. It sets a great ambience in teh room, especially if you turn the lights out when watching a film. To be honest, I was a bit sceptical about both plasma and LCD technology - but having seen what plasma can do, I'm convinced. Even this issue of Image Retention (or screen burn) that plasmas 'have', but LCD's don't, isn't an issue as far as I'm concerned. Image Retention is supposedly an issue on all plasmas, it's where an image is 'burnt' onto the screen if it has stayed on the screen for too long. I made a point of looking out for this when I watched Transformners (it had black banding top and bottom of the screen). After 2 and a bit hours, I looked very very carefully for teh Image retention and although it was there, it was very very faint and it had gone after a couple of minutes. To be honest, I wouldn't have seen it if I hadn't have been looking for it. Dont let LCD enthusiasts convince you this is a problem, coz it isn't. More of a problem is the LCD colour banding. In summary - if you want a 32" flat screen TV - forget LCD, go plasma. Rating:
