Just bought a new 1080p LCD Screen and sold mine to my sister... Wish I'd kept the 42PD5000, the new LCD doesn't quite meet up to expectations on standard TV. Even thinking of buying another secondhand and selling the new LCD until the new technology catches up to the standard of the Old Plasma Screen. Don't use a games console with it so can only comment on Standard Tv, DVD and PC/Mac signal.

Agree with Keith below and others. A bomb proof panel I`ve had mine for more than 5 years and never missed a beat. Fantastic picture quality vie my satellite system.

Had this set with the Hitachi AV3000E tuner box for over 4 years. The equipment has never developed a fault. Each day its in use and sofar we will give it 5 star plus rating for purely reliabity. Well done Hitachi......

Using 1080i no problems on my PS3. Works a treat and quality is excellent!

There are 4 big screws on the back of the screen, just above the video inputs in the middle of the screen. There appear to have a bigger head than the rest of the screws, that is where you attach the wall mount (you may need a specialist mount though)

I also have the HItachi 42PD5000 and it is a great tv, but I bought a wall bracket for it and I cant see and mounting holes on the back of the screen. Is it definitely wall mountable and if so where are the holes?

Actually it is HD - Not sure whether that's true HD or not but since the TV supports 720 and 1080 you should be able to deliver HD via Component. 720 and 1080 are the standards for HD

Love the TV, but be careful, the brouchure states it gives High definition quality, but it is NOT HD ready and cannot be used with a HD unit in the UK....thinking back I now wish I'd spent a bit more on a HD ready unit.

I Purchased the 42PD5000 in November 2003 after much investigation on Plasma Panels at the time. It was released here in Aus approx Oct 2003 and has been the best selling "top end" plasma in most large retail shops since its release over 6 months ago. Am running the Panel with a HD Set Top Box and quality is absolutely briliant. Panel is bracket mounted on the wall with a pair of CMPAS14 speakers. The unit also came with the CMPAD25 swivel stand although this is not in use. Just like the UK market, there are 3 models released here in the 42, 37 and 32 inch range (Panel, Panel/Tuner, Panel/AV3000). I would recommend this plasma over all others currently out on the market...although Pioneers recently released Plasma panel (PDP434HDG) is a nice looking unit as well with good blacks and 1024 Greyscale, producing over 1 billion colours.
