Reviewed by Tony on 01/10/2006 Well, after reviewing Mark`s conclusion on Sony NW-A3000, i woud say,he is not right. I use my Sony for a month already, and everything is really good. The battery life IS 27-35 hours of playback,as shown. The sound qulity is OUTSTANDING. Well,as everything, this player causes some cons and pros: PROS 1.it`s scraches horiibly!(I can`t undestand, why Sony guys don`t remove this problem, since e505 flash player was released with the same problem-SONY,get rid of scraches on Your players, think of the clients,I payed 400USD for mine player!!!:-/) 2.it gets frisked in a second,as soon as You start to use it. 3.it reades atrac format only(but it is good,as it saves the space on my palyers HDD,and I moved to my player my entire music library, consisting of more than 1000 CDs!) 4.All the previous problems are nothing for me, in compareson with this one: the display is allmost unreadable outdoors-You`ll need to buy a remote control for this palyer to work with it out(any Sony remote compartible,a spetial plug exists in player, near the earphone plug). 5.No radio (but i personally don`t need it) 6.A connect Player software is totally unusable! It slows down any PC and impossible to understand. If planning t buy this player, just download SonicStage v4,and everything to work with NW-A3000,and everything will be ok. CONS 1.A fantastic design of the player 2.Sound quality 3.memory (18.4 GB user available!) 4.features (Player inner software-easy to operate player) 5.All the stuff, that comes with the palyer My conclusion: if You are a person, who needs the quality of the sound, design and wants to have all of the music library with you, this palyer is the best buy then.
I highly recommend this player for everyone-it`s really fatastic, you won`t regret. Rating:
Reviewed by mark on 25/03/2006 I was given one of these mp3 players for Christmas. Sound quality is excellent and it looks nice however there are a few problems.
Its bulky and heavy not the sort of thing you can strap on you arm at the
gym. Gym users look elsewhere.
Battery life is claimed to be 35 hours. Battery life is good, more like 20
hours provided you dont access the hard drive which eats the battery like mad. Difficult to avoid using the HDD thats were the music's stored!
There are serious software problems with this device. You can only use the Sony software for transferring and managing your music files you have no other choice. There are two packages avalable, the bundled Connect software and the downloadable Sonicstage.
On my computer Connect is very unstable I am using XP Professional with a fairly high spec machine. It is very slow and causes frequent blue
screens. I had not seen my computer blue screen before I loaded up this
sofware. Connect is a resource hungry beast so expect your computer to run slower. Sony have attempted to fix these problems by downloadable upgrades. At this time, late March 06 it is still slow and unstable and each upgrade just makes things worse. This software is about as bad as it gets. Feels like it was written by a 10 year old for a school computer
project!!
Sonicstage it the other Sony software offering. Yet another bad piece of
softwere from Sony. Sonicstage 3.4 is stable but has very limited
functionality. It actually switches off many of the advanced features on
the NW-A3000. If you already have a large MP3 collection attempting to
import it to you new NW can prove frustrating. Compilation CD's ripped to MP3 are a particular problem with Sonicstage it imports each track as a
new album not nice.
Because its a Sony the unit is very robust and should last a long time,
probably years which is just as well, it gives sony plenty of time to fix the softwere!
Once your music is on the device its easy to access and sounds good. But do not attempt to use this device outdoors you can't see the screen in
daylight, outside its just not bright enough.
I feel what Sony may have done with this player is to rehash their previous MP3 players on the cheap to save development costs. They have poped it in a nice new case and there it is. Yesterdays meal on a new plate! It might look good but it's likey to leave a nasty taste! Rating:
