Reviewed by russszero on 09/06/2006 Having tried a Zen Nano Plus & been happy i went & bought a Zen Microphoto because the display was larger & so was the disk space. At ist the impression of the unit was quite amazing. The Microphoto glows like something out of star trek ... but soon we were let down. The machine again did what it said on the tin .. but when i took it outside .. because of the colour screen ( simular to a mobile phone screen) .. didnt like bright sunlight! .. indoors its really the business .. especially in a darken room ... but its hopeless in bright sunlight.
++++ PLEASE NOTE THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE zEN mICROPHOTO++++++
The sound quality of our one was also a let down as it sounded very muddy .. more like a cheap radio .. rather than a quality kit .. as the Nano Plus sounds.! The test was using large headphones & thru the hi-fi .. with very large speakers .. so i cant blame the monitoring device. No fiddling with the EQ made it better.!
So im afraid it was returned & the store gave us a refund. We were dissapointed but ive since found out that the Zen Micro has a different screen .. so it may well be more suitable for outdoors .. after all .. weve got the music INDOORS .. so i dont really need it INDOORS!! .. mmm verdict : a very flashy bit of kit .. the touch pads take some getting used to .. menus galore .. FM radio was good ... color display but ours didnt work very well outside. 3/10 for outdoor useability & 7/10 overall .. 10/10 for cosmetic appearance .. mixed feelings. Rating:
