Reviewed by antony mcmaddy on 02/06/2008 Give this tv a W I D E birth! I was conned into being told it was 100 htz and yet it is only 50 htz from sony centre! After finally looking around after countless magazine research for what is the best tv the sony ticked all the boxes or so i was told! it really does miss out not being 100htz and i have never seen such bad ghosing and smearing through anolog tv! Hd only looks slightly better than an upscaled dvd! This is only one step down form the flag ship bravia x3500 and yes it is full of features but these just make your picture into a brighter bad one or a dull bad one! All i will say is that thank god i play a lot of xbox 360 as it is here that i cannot fault the tv. I would suggest to anyone who is thinking of taking the plunge into the world of hdtv dont get this one and get a plasma rather than an lcd, and also dont be fooled by the hdtv pictures they display in the showrooms as it's not all what it is cracked up to be. Reviewed by Mark on 02/02/2008 I like this LCD but it does give motion blur, put on a BlueRay HD source and its very noticable even with the new EX engine. I would probably buy the samsung next time! Rating:
Reviewed by peter from berkshire on 09/01/2008 Very good, but do watch it first in-store as there are issues with the normal free to air digital picture which most people watch. Namely, there is ghosting, motion blur, and some colour separation during moving close ups in darker situations and where subjects wear black or dark clothing. Also some motion blur in football longer view scenes. This is not to say that this is a major problem as taking a wider view, the overall picture is stunning, and you soon begin to accept any slight abnormalities. You will need to be around 3/4 metres away from the set for normal viewing. Be careful with online retailers as mine wanted 25% of overall order to send an engineer in case of problems that turned out to be not what they define as a problem. ( such as motion blur etc. ) in my case the order was £2300.00. You would expect Sony to iron out all imperfections before putting a set on the market for up to £2,500.00 but its buyer beware....check out plasma sets as they dont have these problems. Overall though, this set will not disappoint as I am sure other manufacturers have their own little niggles. Rating:

Reviewed by Richard Johnston on 13/11/2007 I took delivery of a Sony 46W3000 on Friday 19th Nov 2007 after, what can only be described as, a tortuous 12 months, of bending my wife’s ear about HD, 46" or 50", LCD or Plasma, price reductions, special offers, warranty’s and on and on. Just buy the one! was certainly mentioned more than once. I reviewed Panasonics 50" Plasma, Samsungs 46" LCD's and 50" Plasmas as well as older Sony W2000 models and even a 46X2000, but made the right choice with the 46W3000. So what about the TV? Well there is a lovely brushed aluminium finish inside a clean aesthetically pleasing housing, with the main speaker housed below the screen, which allows for the sound to be projected straight out rather than through either side as with a lot of other TV’s do. The sounds have a clear and fresh tone which, although needs some volume increase to provide the best sound, does out perform my wife’s drumming practice in the room next door. Don’t be concerned when you get this TV delivered as on unpacking the HUGE box I did find that part of the packaging to one side just houses the stand and therefore we did not need to build an extension we thought me might just to house it. When setting the TV up, it was very straight forward with menus and options easy to understand, so a quick read through of the manual is all that’s called for to get it up and running. You can spend ages reading the rest of the manual to set up and change all manner of settings, but out of the box if fine to get started with. When choosing the built in digital tuner to start with and setting up the channels, I was slightly apprehensive as the scanning percentage was going very high before it latched onto more than 70 channels. With some of these channels being digital radio stations, which are always a preferred option to listening to rather than the constantly repeated adverts for Mobile phone tunes on music channels, then the amount of programs you actually receive is lower, around 45 I would say. The pictures are sharp and crisp with good definition, the colours are very bright and it does need a little adjusting to tone them down slightly but it just shows how good the TV is. After watching a number of different programmes I would say that sport and movies do work well and whilst sitting around 3.5 meters back you will appreciate this extra distance, so you don’t get too hung up on the slight ghosting that sometimes shows on faster moving images, it does not distract from the whole viewing experience. Our TV is also connected to a SKY+ box (not HD, Yet!) and this became an almost ‘Return to Sender’ moment in the house as the picture was worse than the digital ones, however a setting change proved the solution and order was restored. After connecting a PS3 and an XBOX to the TV to check out games such as Motorstorm, RFOM & Tiger Woods PGA 07, then you can see way so many people want large screens nowadays for gaming. These pictures are superb and I don’t know where you would be able to obtain a better one without selling something very dear to you to raise the cash. Would I recommend this TV? Yes absolutely. Sony are currently providing a 5year warranty up to 30 Nov 2007 so that should bring with it a little piece of mind. You can readily obtain all the technical data on most websites selling the TV, so I didn’t want to bore you with this, but just give some first hand experience of this TV from my point of view. I hope it helps. Rating:
