Reviewed by Darren Lane on 20/04/2009 Superb TV. I have had this unit for 2 months now and can't fault it for the most part. Sound is good. Off looks great, especially the 'secret' buttons. HD content is the best I have ever seen! SD leaves a little to be desired to be honest, especially after watching a HD source. Other negatives include when watching a BLU Ray, for perfect picture the dreaded black bands appear at the top and bottom of the screen to get a true 16:9 image. And last but by no means least the worst thing about this unit has to be the wait time when switching between sources, upto 4 or 5 seconds sometimes! I know that doesn't really make a difference to the picture and sound quality but it annoys me. Having said that, this is definately the best TV I have ever seen and I have spent many hours being uber critical of every panel I've seen, from £1k plasma offerings from the likes of LG through to Pioneer Kuro's sitting a touch higher, all the way up to the big money Panasonics and offerings from B&O and Loewe. If you have got the money, and the space! then your hard earned three grand will not be better spent on any other tv than this. Until it is superceeded in October at least. Hope this helps someone out in cyberland. Rating:
Reviewed by Derick Meechan on 09/11/2008 There is a review I recently seen on the 55" which I thought was worth looking at. One of the things they said of this set is " Even with some content on screen, the black level on the Samsung LE55A956 virtually matched the reference-level blacks delivered by Pioneer Kuro plasmas" . Praise indeed, especially for an LCD, considering that the Kuro is recognised as THE flat screen that others aspire too. You can read the whole review at HDTV Test.co.uk. Try also the reviews of the 786 and you will see superlatives on what is intrinsically the same led panel. Have not seen the SD content as yet, but the HD is awesome, can't wait to get my hands on one. Rating:
