Reviewed by Duncs. on 12/09/2007 Like the previous reviewer (Dean), I also bought this telly using click 'n' collect and paid £499, so saved £100 for the sake of two minutes time on the internet... I was impressed that only two minutes after clicking on the 'reserve' button, a guy from the Comet store phoned me to confirm my Internet reservation and that I could pick up the telly anytime - WOW! Plug in and the telly enters set-up mode automatically. Set-up is fuss free, with minimal information required from the user (location, time zone, language) and then off it goes and finds all the analogue and digital channels and sorts them. Picture quality is great on digital and good on analogue (although this is academic as analogue will be no more in my area in a couple of years time...). Considering the size of the speakers, the sound quality is impressive too... 'AVL' is a nice feature that tries to even out volume levels (useful for taming the annoying fact that commercials are always twice as loud a s the programme), however, I would turn-off AVL for music-based programmes. There is plenty of adjustments that can be made to the picture, including several preset picture tones, and one user setting. These settings can be adjusted and stored independantly for each input source, useful if one source has different picture characteristics to another source. I haven't tried an HDMI input yet as I haven't got an HDMI soucre yet! (will have to upgrade my Skybox) However, I tried my sons X-box 360 hooked up to it and was very impressed. If I had to nit-pick, I would say the remote is only average (as with all Philips remotes...), there's no dedicated phono audio-out sockets and no VGA socket, so you have to use one of the HDMI sockets with an adapter to run a PC through it. Anyway, so far I'm very pleased with this set; more importantly, the 'other half' and the mother-in-law approve of it too (from a 'looks' point of you). Note - if you want the extended warranty, 'buy' this on the web site at the same time as reserving the telly - you'll save 40 quid on this too over the in-store price (£149.99 on the net V £189.99 in-store for 5 years). Reviewed by Dean on 08/08/2007 Bought one of these yesterday using Comet's 'click & collect' service. Got it at the web price of £484 even though you actually pay in store when you collect. In store price really is £599!! What a saving just for being bothered to look on the web for a few minutes! So far I am very impressed with this TV from its elegant yet understated black gloss bezel to the rich vibrant colours you get without losing any of the sharpness over movement (my previous Philips LCD suffered from this but did not have the Pixel Plus processing that this set has. The audio is pretty good too though I tend to use my Sony home theatre setup for everything I watch thus bypassing the TV's own speakers altogether. As with everything in life elements of it could be better - the digital TV guide is not as nice as you would get from most separate set top boxes and the heaphone socket volume is total pants. All in all though excellent for the money! nice understted Rating:
