Panasonic's new Viera LCD offers cutting edge technology and stunning picture quality, all wrapped up in a stylish, sophisticated design. The TX-26LXD500 features a high quality HD panel and Viera Colour Management System (Panasonic's plethora of black box technology). With the announcement from BSkyB that they are planning to go live with HD broadcast in 2006, the LXD500 series fully prepares you for a new HD world, and the addition of an HDMI terminal ensures that the picture is second-to-none! Perfect Panel, Superb Sound. The LXD500 series sets a brilliant new standard in high-definition viewing. Boasting a new HD panel (XGA Resolution) with approximately 1,049,068 (1386 x 768) pixels, these models relay all the detailed beauty of high-quality-image sources. Thanks to the strong 700:1 contrast level, the LCD reproduces high-quality, true-to-life images. To compliment the TX26LXD500's exquisite picture quality, it has an impressive Smart Sound Speaker System comprised of four speakers (two on each side) arranged vertically on either side of the screen. The positioning of the speakers allows the sounds to pour out right from the center of the picture, ensuring the dialogue and other sounds are clear and easy on the ear. Bass sounds are robust too, thanks to two woofer units at the base of the screen. Colour management system for more expressive and enhanced images. The merit of the new TX-26LXD500 Viera LCD extends far beyond the aesthetic appeal. This elegant beauty takes quality to a new level with remarkably crisp and lifelike images, extraordinary detail, vivid colours, pure, deep blacks and outstanding sound. This phenomenal performance is possible thanks to Panasonic's Viera Colour Management System. Real skin tones and vibrant backgrounds. Panasonic's new 3D Colour Management System changes the way colours are presented on screen. Not only does this technology alter the colour displayed by each pixel, but it can now vary the level of brightness each pixel holds. In effect, this allows a whole new array of colours to be displayed in a scene. This technology produces skin tones are more "real" than ever before whilst simultaneously ensuring that background colours, such as fresh green grass and bright blue skies, maintain their vibrancy - pictures appear to come alive with the new TX-26LXD500.

Reviewed by Phil Lee on 12-10-2005 I bought this TV more or less when it came out back in August 2005. Since then I have been generally pleased with its performance. There is something worth knowing about though. My Digital reception is very good, in fact the TV aerial installer showed a very healthy strong signal and the picture reflects that. When watching a scene with many shades of the same colour in, like a close up of someones face, although the colours are excellent they can move giving a " liquid " look, its quite odd! I have just bought a Denon 1920 DVD player, today in fact, and have had a quick look. Connected via scart, not the best way I know, and watched Blue Planet DVD. Some shots of the sea with the various shades of blue were slightly pixelated or shimmery. I am going to buy an HDMI cable in the hope that it will overcome these slight anomalies with DVDs.....we will see and I will let know. However different programmes will vary in quality because of compression, age and a host of other issues. Above all, these high resolution screens will sometimes reveal digital artefacts and there is alot to be said for good transmission, something beyond our control! Generally the TX 26LXD500 has a very watchable screen and the sound is excellent too and you will not be disappointed. You can buy them for around # 1150 if you shop around. Off to watch some football which I have to say is pretty flawless something I was concerned about as I have seen some terrible, unwatchable pictures on other LCD and Plasma screens. Enjoy Rating:
Reviewed by Sandra Walding on 22-08-2005 I don't yet have one, but I have watched it in our local store. This TV is fantastic and all the claims on clarity are something else. It looks smart, is very watchable and the digital quality is absolutely brilliant. I am just off to buy one now. Rating:
