LG 32LH7000 ReviewRating: Date: 16/06/2009 LG's range of LCD TV's have improved steadily over the years and are now amongst the best sellers in the UK. This is thanks to a triple combination of competitive pricing, good looks and high image quality. The 32LH7000 hits all three of these targets and is one of the best 32 inch tellies currently available.
Priced at around £600, the 32LH7000 goes head-to-head with the Sony KDL-32V5500, so it had better be good! Just undercutting the Sony by about 50 quid, the LG has pretty much the same spec, the highlights of these being full 1080 HD, 24p Real Cinema, 100 Hz motion processing, four HDMI connections and USB 2.0. The four HDMI connections make the TV pretty well future-proof, as you can plug in a set top box/DVD recorder, games console, BluRay player and still have a spare. The USB port lets you view content such as photos or video from a networked PC. A Freeview tuner is built in to the TV.
The LG performs well in practice, with a high dynamic contrast ration of 80,000:1 and high peak brightness levels. A sensor automatically adjusts the brightness levels depending on background light levels, helping to save energy use. You can select the viewing mode too, with a choice of Cinema, Sport and Game modes. The invisible speakers produce a total of 14W peak power and support virtual surround sound. LG's new Clear Voice II technology gives plenty of oomph to the sound quality.
The TV looks good too, with its very contemporary gloss black finish with red accents. It also comes with a built-in swivel stand.
Overall, this is an excellent set. The difference in picture quality between the LG 32LH7000 and the Sony KDL-32V5500 is minimal and reflected in the fact that the Sony is slightly more expensive. Either would be an excellent choice and a very welcome addition to your front room!
