LG 32LC2D

LG 32LC2D ReviewRating: Date: 15-11-2006 The LG 32LC2D is an exceptionally well priced 32 inch HD Ready LCD TV. Looking more like a computer monitor than a TV, the 32LC2D is rather uncompromising in its looks and wouldn't suit every room. Still, it's smartly styled with a matt black finish and a discrete speaker bar mounted below the screen and comes with a useful display stand. A wall mount is also supplied in the sales package.
With a TV this well priced, it's natural to assume that display quality has been compromised, and it's true that LG picture quality is not up to Sony standards, but it's still good. Like all the latest 32-inch LCD TV's the 32LC2D has a widescreen format of 16:9 and is HD Ready. Its resolution is 1,366 x 768 pixels (WXGA) which is typical for a screen of this size. The display has a very high contrast ratio of 1,600:1, a wide viewing angle of 178°, and a fast response time of 8 milliseconds, to help reduce any 'ghost' effects. The 3D Digital Comb Filter feature helps prevent any smudging or vibrating edges on the picture. DCDi digital enhancement is used to improve the quality of sub-HD input. The end result of all this technology is a good quality picture whether watching a HD source or a lower quality picture source. It can't compete with high end screens, but you wouldn't expect it to at this price.
The 32LC2D has 2 speakers at the bottom of the screen with a rather weedy output of 15W in SRS TXT Surround Sound. The sound system also has Enhanced Noise Reduction and 6 different modes in EZ Sound to choose from including Flat, Music, Movie, Sports, User and SRS TXT.
Like most of its competitors the 32LC2D has an integrated Freeview digital tuner with auto programming and channel labels for easy installation. An 8-day Electronic Programme Guide makes navugating through channels a pleasure. Other features include PIP (Picture In Picture), POP (Picture Outside Picture) and Double Window, all allowing you to watch two different channels simultaneously.
When it comes to connectivity ports, the machine starts to lag its competitors. The main costsaving comes from having just one HDMI input. This is the connection that enables you to plug in a HD source such as SkyHD. With just one HDMI input there's no room for future expansion. Nevertheless, LG have provided a good choice of other connection ports: 3 SCART connections, component video (Y,Pb,Pr), S-video, RGB input (for connecting a PC) and AV input. Outputs include a digital audio connection, which not too many of LG's competitors offer at this price point.
In conclusion then, the LG 32LC2D is a very good value for money 32 inch TV. Yes, there have been compromises to get the cost this low, notably the lack of a second HDMI connection and lacklustre audio quality, but picture quality is good enough and if you're on a budget then this television offers perhaps the best value for money of any current 32 inch LCD. If you have more cash to spend, then there's plenty of choice in the 32 inch sector from manufacturers such as Samsung, Philips, Panasonic, Toshiba, Sharp or Sony.

Reviewed by Colin Rowden on 28/12/2007 This TV is an Excelent TV avaliable from Online retailers for £400 - £800. The TV has very good specs and the screen quality is amasing. The built in freeview is good, although an external one I had connected by decent scart cables provided a better picture (& Recording Ability, otherwise id just use the inbuilt one). Two HDMI's amd Component provide all your HD needs. I've got the PS3 & 360 both connected and they look amazing on this Set. The PC input is also a very good feature, supporting PC sound input through 3.5mm jack (headphone). The built in Surround Max processor is pretty good for normal TV, however is nothing compared to the real thing for true 5.1 sources, like DVDs. Built in freeview has a Optical out so if your like me and have a optical input on your surround system, you can enjoy surround from standard broadcasts. TV features Simpilink for LG devices and this connects and works beautifully with my LG HDMI ups caling DVD & Surround unit, allowing one remote to control all. HDMI control also turns the TV on when I press play on the DVD, selecting the correct HDMI input on the TV. 1 button play... Amazing :) I Really cannot fault this TV, it works well & it looks fantastic. Just as good looking in the corner when off, but maybe thats just the AV enthusiast in me. Only gripe I have is there is no Picture in Picture, something which my much lower spec LG had, but the rest of the TV makes up for it. At the price I paid I got a bargain, shop around & you'll get yourself a very good TV. Rating:
