Reviewed by Dave on 08/12/2005 It was a choice between this and the samsung, however heard about a few problems with the samsung and when i went into the store there were 2 boxed up with faulty written on. So i bought the JVC. Impressions. Looks - Very smart and quite imposing. Setup - very simple automatic for both the Digital and Analogue TV stations, the manual is excellent and the TV has enough connections for all my external devices (Sky, VCR, DVR, DVD etc)the manual recommends which to use for each device. No HDI direct but using component is no problem. Used a scart converter to component for DVD player and picture is now better than straight scart. Picture - superb 1st thing that hits you is how bright the display is, whites are very crisp and the blacks are much better than you get on a normal PC LCD screen. Default colours are a bit too strong (like a glossy magazine) but toning them down gives a very lifelike picture. Bright images on screen can appear a bit grainy (like a low res video) and the edges of screen icons (sky press red button etc) can appear a bit fuzzy. The menus however are sharp and crisp and text is also sharp. Sound - distorts a bit on high settings and the virtual 3D is not very impressive, it is clear and easy to listen to. got mine with a free 4 year warrenty and 2 years interest free for £1K so worth looking around. Overall - very impressed and well worth the money especially as it is future proofed. P.S. it is quite a surprise how much bigger the screen looks after a 32" CRT so a 30" as a replacement would have been fine. Rating:
