I have had the DAVS888 almost four years now. It is the best looking system i have ever seen under £1000 with those aluminium casing speakers and DVD that newer systems dont have (plastic). If you can find one BUY IT...Good work SONY!!!

What a fantastic piece of kit... I would really recommend this to anyone who enjoys sound and picture quality at the highest standard. The sound is all you could want and is very loud, although it does need a certain level of set-up to gain the best results, but I suppose that is part of the fun :-) The look and feel are spot on and everyone who see's it makes a positive comment, even before it is switched on! Well done Sony! another happy customer...

This has got to be the best home cinema system that you can buy for under £1000. I researched this extensively before buying, and I am very very pleased with the 888. Expect to spend several hours setting the thing up, as it takes time to connect 6 speakers and plug all the inputs and outputs into the right places. If you're like me, you'll probably then spend a few days making sure that you've got all the best cables in order to optimise the picture and sound quality. But it's worth it! Picture quality is faultless when playing DVD's. Sound is superb - after setting it up, the first DVD I watched was a Bond film that I'd seen a couple of times before, and the sound blew me away! I also use the system as my main home hi-fi system, and it's excellent for playing CD's too, both classical and pop. It has a built-in radio tuner, but if you have Sky you can get CD-quality radio input instead. Even for watching TV it's worth putting the sound through the Sony speakers. The system has 100W per channel, but unless you hate your neighbours (or don't have any), you won't need to use anything like this amount of power. Functionally, the system works well and the controls are easy to use. I particularly like the eject mechanism of the player. The remote control glows in the dark (handy when watching movies). Aesthetically, the system is simply outstanding. The box itself is silver, slim and sexy, and the speakers are simply stunning. Even switched off, the DAVS-888 is worth the money!!! I've read reviews about the predecessors of this model, and there seems to have been some problems with sound quality. This has now been fixed in the 888 by making the subwoofer powered. If I had to make a criticism, it's that discs take a little while to read when you first insert them. Not long enough to be annoying, but long enough to notice the delay. Still, good things come to those who wait! If you can afford it, the Sony DAVS-888 is the one to buy!
