Reviewed by Matt on 09/12/2006 very good quality for not too much money, very easy setup, I've been working as a sound engineer for almost half of my life, so let me tell you: "calibration is the key to excellent sound"; because I was too lazy to set up my own mics, noise generator & analyzer I went for a system that provides DCAC (mic included). After connecting the speakers simply put the mic where your head will be when watching the movie, press the button (quick setup) and you will have an outstanding result in less than 3 minutes. And: you don't have to be a sound engineer to get it right!
O.K. in goes the first movie (Armageddon) volume to 50% and wow, great sound especially "on impact"; This system has a great sub-woofer and nicely balanced front & rear speakers, the center is a bit "loud" at about 1kHz but that is acceptable. Next run is volume at 65%, the arm chair starts rocking (you get 850W RMS from this system), the overall sound ist still near perfect. So let's try 80% volume, arm chair is ready for take off, overall sound still very good. I did not try more than 80% volume because this is already "very loud" (the system delivers 140W per speaker). Throughout these "tests" the system delivered superb and very dynamic sound. I purchased the system about 10 weeks ago and most likely watch movies at 55% - 70% volume. So what about that audio CD feature? Stick in the CD and be surprised, the system picks the appropiate setting (music) and plays the CD with a better quality than I expected from a Home Theater system. It plays music over the front & rear speakers and the sub-woofer. This really" fills the room". You can switch it to use the front speaker & sub-woofer only (2 channel stereo) but I like it better running all five. This system basically has everything I was looking for at a fair price.
