Reviewed by Karen on 08/03/2008 I Bought the HTDB120 having alot problems with Speakers and the dvd player unit i won't recommend buying this again Rating:
Reviewed by Oliver Scott on 10-03-2004 I bought the Samsung HTDB120 as a second room unit ,as I have a top end home cinema system in my living room. I wasn't expecting big bangs for the money but this system was a real shocker. From its tiny speakers and passive sub it really can pack a punch in an average bedroom and even medium living room. Its stylings are very pleasing too, with a slim, mirrored front, main DVD player with buit in amp and FM tuner. It comes with built in Dolby Digital and DTS decoder and has the added benefit of ProLogic and ProLogic II decoding, which will give a new lease of life to your stereo CDs or MP3s and older DVDs. It's very easy to set up as all the cables are colour coded and it's just a simple question of plug in and play. It has one set of aux inputs and a digital SP-DIF input so you can ad another DVD player or plug in a games console. The HTDB120 can be region modded (alowing you to play all discs from around the globe) by pressing a few buttons on the supplied remote. Check out www.dvdreviewer.co.uk for the hack. This system has also played nearly every disc I've thrown at it, from DVDs (from any region including DVD+R back ups) to CDs and MP3s burned to CD. You can get around 200 MP3s on a single CD which makes this unit a great little Jukebox. The best thing with this system is it will read MP3s off a DVD+R disc (not tested DVD-R). I have a DVD+R with 1,200 MP3s on it DVD+ which is about 3.5 days worth of continuous music, what a bonus. It will also play JPEG pics off CDs or DVD+R (DVD-R not tested). The sound from this unit isn't top end but it does sound good for the low price and with the sub powered up to full it can really shake the floorboards. It's pleasantly subtle without the harsh tinny sound you get from other cheap models. I'd reccommend the Samsung HTDB120 to anyone wanting to dip their toes into the wonderful world of Home Cinema Surround. It's a suberb piece of kit with some added extras that make it unmissable as an all round entertainment sysyem. Rating:
