Reviewed by Raj on 10-03-2004 PHILIPS LX9000R GREAT "MUST HAVE" SYSTEM !!! I have seen all the leading DVD recorder players avaliable in the market and surround systems on their own.............NONE reach the integrated LX9000R level man !!!!!!!!! What are the strengths? DVD recordable is the future.........time has come to throw out the VCR's just like the era when music came on CDs & tape became obselete (nearly). STRENGTHS- 1) Progressive Scan.......no doubt is the most important ......with Digital TV you dont see any picture distortion.........Great picture no fuzzy stuff 2) SOUND- Mind blowing............Subwoofers......WOW.........real DEEEEEEEEP bass & Centre cinema speaker has lived to its hype and is great. It is great to watch TV progammes or MTV or FM with the RICH SURROUND SOUND. 3) Menu is fine and once you get used to it ........it is OK and easy to manage + has TV display of menu. What are the weaknesses? 1) DISPLAY is HORRIBLE. Whoever designed this was thinking that people would be sitting 1 feet from the system and playing it. THE LCD screen is so light you can hardly see it. Some other display sytem would have been better.............Looks Good close up.........BUT FAR from GOOD from FAR !!!! 2) Safe record is only when you use the direct record button. If you are watching some recorded programme & stop it half way through and then later start a record in a rush OR on timer.......the recording starts from the last place you stopped.........means your previously recorded progrmme is overwritten. Summary Great system.........BUY IT WITHOUT ANY HESITATION. NO OTHER SYSTEM COMES CLOSE TO THIS !!!!!!!!!! 30% cheaper compared to all other shops on high street at around B#580 1) Digitaldirectuk.com (manchester based) OR 2) Living in London........go to the pantheronline showroom near Neasden and buy it DIRECTLY from their showroom and NOT ONLINE.Dont buy online from them as there are lot of grouses against this online seller.
