Well, seems I have the same problem as Neil. Panasonic SC-HT500 freezes after about 30mins of play. Looking to get it repaired for the first time, and guess what, just out of guarantee. However, the home theatre surround sound is fabulous. Shame about the crap lazer.

Bought it just over a year ago. After 3 months it started to freeze on all dvd's and then came up with a h05 error. Panasonic less than helpful and when I took it to an authorised repairer, I know why. The twin laser fitted is of poor design and starts to fail when the machine warms up. Finally after 2 months of waiting it was returned only to start acting up again freezing dvd's during play. Just out of warranty now and (suprise, suprise) the machine cannot read any discs placed in it - not even cd's. If Panasonic think I'm going to waste good money getting it repaired (again, their helpline is anything but..), they can think again. Avoid this junk. It is stupid of Panasonic to be less than helpful - I for one will avoid all their other products like the plague and have consigned the SCHT500 to the skip.

Absolutely outstanding piece of kit, excellent sound (the sub is fantastic compared to some others on the market), excellent picture at an excellent price... no problems at all during set-up, defiantly one of my better buys.

utter crap - broke down @ 4 weeks old - store wont replace and panasonics repairers have told me that they cant fix it for at least 51 working days.
