Reviewed by John Kennett on 10/01/2009 I suppose one should not expect too much for the price but as these headphones are made by Philips I was hoping for something that worked at least to some degree. To my ears using the noise canceling feature seems not to make any difference to background noise and indeed seems to add to the noise interference by producing an annoying hiss. All that appears to happen when noise canceling is switched on is that the music volume is increased. The overall sound quality is not very good and there were no operating instructions supplied just an information sheet on the disposal of the product printed in 16 languages. I guess that the rubbish bin is the best place for them. If like me you are tempted, don't waste your money. Rating:
Reviewed by Emre Lento on 07/03/2008 Simply terrible. Firstly, no noise canceling. It isolates some of the external voice just like any other in-ear headphones but adds some real annoying rustling. Terrible and terrible sound quality, even when the noise canceler is off. Quite uncomfertable wire length, you hang it to your neck, put your player in your pocket, and there is way too long wire from that thingy to your pocket. Maybe thats just me. And by the way, what's that thing? As far as I know noise canceling headphones have some kind of sound receiver in order to measure external sound and eliminate it, well, this one has none, as I figure, it must be set to one certain frequency and it isnt public bus or ferry, or hair dryer or electric vacuum according to my experiments. And also I opened that thing, it is almost bigger than my Sansa E200 but it is almost empty on the inside. It could be much much smaller. Shame for Philips. I totally do not recommend this product. Reviewed by Russ on 23/10/2006 I bought this product for the advertised noise reduction facility as I had a 14 hour flight to go on. It's a nice fit in the ears as there is a choice of 3 different sizes, but that's the only good thing about it. I tested it out during my flight and it made absoloutely no difference what so ever to the background noise of the aircraft, all it does is to amplify the sound - which can also be done by turning up the volume on the flight control pad. I compared them to the free headset provided on the plane and there was no difference between the two headsets - apart from the price. I also had the oppertunity to try a fellow passengers Sony noise reduction headset and I was amazed at the performance, this Sony worked as decribed and completely eliminated the noise of the aircraft. Last time I will ever buy anything made by philips. Rating:
