Reviewed by Lee - Salisbury on 11/05/2009 Whilst the picture quality through the tuner and DVD playback are excellent we have been plagued with problems when recording - often it will not record and says "NO BORADCAST" even when we have watched the programme it was supposed to record! Also can't record one channel and watch another (digital). The problems appeared within a couple of months, we put it down to the signal but it's clearly not. Have taken it back to Sony Centre where we bought it after 14 months - apparently you can't get a replacement as it only has to be serviceable (which means you have to take it in everytime something goes wrong). Poor service and quality control- not what I would expect Sony to stand for. Anyone from Sony reviews this and thinks I am being harsh...I have always bought Sony and being please with both quality and service - I guess I was sold a dud in this case! Rating:
Reviewed by David @ Clacton on 28/12/2008 Have had this for a few days now. So far its been OK. The picture on the DVD is very good. I also dont have a very good freeview signal but this finds and picks up all the channels even ITV which the other freeview box wont find. I also would not go any lower than LP when recording as the picture looks to blocky on the Toshiba 42x3030D TV. But SP and SLP seem fine. Rating:
Reviewed by Andrew on 21/11/2008 I have had my machine for 6 months now. The picture quality (when fully working) is brilliant. However, picture freezes and distorts, I am unable to watch my televison thru the normal aerial as there is no (or very poor) signal from the dvd - so I have to watch the tv thru the dvd. Rating:
Reviewed by Rob on 23/09/2008 Had min over a year now - Realy easy to use, no problem recording, easy to adjsut to suit my new TV. Have problems though with picture freeze on ITV channels that I don't get on my TV - anyone else had this? Rating:
Reviewed by mark on 02/09/2008 I have had mine for 4 months and i have to say its been an excellent machine, i previously had a pioneer DV636D which was an awesome machine in its day and with the scart lead still produces a better picture, but with the upgrade to HDMI the sony is streets ahead. Amazing picture quality (i have a 32" sony bravia lcd 1080i) and a full flawless sound through the digital co-ax to the full surround system with both my old yamaha (6.1)and now the sony (7.1) amp. All the functions are very simple if you ignore the manual and just have a go! You will struggle to find better for less than £200! Rating:
Reviewed by Keith on 12/08/2008 Don`t know what the problem is with people not being able to record. It`s so simple to set up!. Once up and running picture quality is superb, i would give it 5 stars. Rating:
Reviewed by Neil Weston on 30/07/2008 I have had my HXD870 four days. Wont record from Video input. Wont dub either, its the worst piece of gear I have ever bought. Hope to get my money refunded.I would never touch Sony equipment again. The instruction manual is mind bogling, you do what it says, but the thing just does not work. Rating:
Reviewed by John on 10/07/2008 You need both your tv and your recorder to have their own freeview before you can watch one program and record another regardless of which recorder you buy. This is a superb machine apart from its manual - which is a bit too detailed - and most buyers find they can use the machine just by skimming through the manual Rating:
Reviewed by Paul on 22/06/2008 I'm also having problems with the record function. I can't watch TV whilst recording another channel and, worst of all, can't establish if this is correct or not. My instinct is that it should be able to considering that is function that exists on VHS!!! Am I missing something or can you only record what you're watching. Thanks in advance for your time for responding. Paul Rating:
Reviewed by leo on 15/04/2008 be ware its a junk product , go to pioneer Rating:
Reviewed by Dave Wridgway on 23/03/2008 Please can anybody help i've had the sony RDR-HXD870 for a month and still can't record anything on to it, I thought it would be easy being as I have got a Sony HD TV, but no. The instruction manual is so complicated and does not make sense, I've had other paople try to no avail, I now regret bying it, can anyone help. Rating:
