Reviewed by Yuri on 19-07-2005As image processing has been part of my work for a long time, I am very demanding to the picture quality in video equipment. From this point of view RDR-GX300 is a perfect machine for its price. While recording a broadcast program (I'm using a HD satellite receiver) you don't even have to use HQ mode. SP mode gives you a copy almost as good as the original show. It’s very easy to use, can handle almost any disk format. Though I found the most convenient to use is RW+ (no finalizing needed). The titles can be easily edited, especially I liked A-B editing, which allows to delete unwanted pieces from the record. The titles can also be given friendly names. Due to the IR blaster, the recorder can control the satellite box (or cable box if you have it) and thus the timer does the recording fully automatically. The picture processing mode can be controlled to a wide extent too. Though for a good quality source signal no processing adjustments are required. I have just one concern with this recorder: I wish it could handle 16:9 format with RW+ disks. Rating:  Reviewed by David Fitzgerald on 29-01-2005 Bought a Philips 610 recorder lasted 30 mins, got a refund and bought a Sony rdr-gx300. The picture quality cannot be bettered, format the discs before you use them and its just as fast as a Philips. Out of nine brands of disc, played all and recorded all. If the build is anything to go by everything else will be fine. I will never buy a philips recorder ever again. My Sony vhs recorder lasted 15 years, so I hope this lasts just as long. Rating: Reviewed by disappointed on 08-01-2005 I had this machine for a few hours.set it up according to the hand book (Which is poorly set out) and sat back to enjoy what many reveiws regard the RDRGX300 as a very good well sorted machine. What a disappointment, concidering it should be capable of playing both DVD-+r/rw formats it refused point blank to play Verbatim DVD+RW disks infact out of 10 brand new disks it only allowed me to record on 2. The other niggle i have with this machine is It as very little control over a sky box unlike the Phillips DVR80 it cannot switch Decoder channels, resulting in setting up the decoder and the recorder seperately. I did not keep it long enough to find out many good points but in it's favour the picture quality on the disks i managed to record to was very good. Rating:
